10 Things We Love About RunDisney At Walt Disney World

If you enjoy races or have ever considered walking or running a race, then you should definitely consider RunDisney races.  The races are definitely as magical as they seem and the RunDisney team goes out of their way to create fantastic race events unlike any others you could experience anywhere else.  Here are the top 10 things we love about RunDisney:

10. There are character meet and greets.

Character meet and greets are especially awesome when you are on a high from all of the exercise and energy from one of the RunDisney races.  The characters keep you pumped up and make for amazing memories and pictures.  There are also several of them throughout the course, so you get the opportunity to meet and greet with a ton of them!

9. The medals are beautiful and change each year.

The medals are different for each race and they also change each year.  There are typically different themes that the races are based on and the medals are designed to match the theme.  They are gorgeous, heavy duty and fun to wear around the parks after you have finished your race.

8. You have the opportunity to see the parks in a completely different way.

It is a totally different experience to see the theme parks in the early morning hours without the rides in operation and all the kids and guests.  You share the route with all of the other racers, but it is a very different experience and vibe.  I take in the scenery a little more during a race and notice different things than I normally do.  This could be because I am trying to distract myself from being tired, but it’s still fantastic!

7. There are a variety of races offered for all ages.

There isn’t just the marathon or half marathon races that are offered.  There are races for all skill levels with 10Ks and 5Ks also typically offered.  There are also a grouping a kid races that are offered so that kids of all ages can participate with their own race t-shirt and registration.  It is healthy, active fun that the whole family can get excited about.

6. Costumes are allowed.

This is definitely one time where costumes are allowed for all ages.  There are still rules in order to ensure that guests are safe, but you can dress up as any of your favorite characters or other costume ideas.  If you run one of the races, you will see a wide variety of creative costumes and guests getting into the spirit of dressing up.  This definitely adds to the fun!

5. The energy and encouragement levels are high.

There are so many supportive guests at the RunDisney races.  We have always had great experiences with racers encouraging each other.  The volunteers that help to run the event and drink stations are also extremely encouraging.  They always cheer everyone on as they come through and definitely enhance the experience.  They are some of the best volunteers that I have ever had at races.

4. There are special booking windows for Annual Passholders.

If you are an Annual Passholder, you will be excited to know that you can book your race registration in advance of the other racers.  There is typically a two week window where a set number of registrations are opened to book in advance for Annual Passholders.  Many of the races book up almost instantly due to popularity so this is a great perk of being an Annual Passholder.

3. There is a ton of exclusive merchandise.

For all of you shoppers out there, you are definitely going to want to check out the race expo for the race events.  You will find exclusive race-themed merchandise including things like Dooney & Bourke purses, RunDisney New Balance shoes, shirts, pins, etc.  There are also other vendors that attend the event and you will be able to purchase a wide variety of running supplies and athletic gear.

2. Photographers take a lot of great pictures.

Throughout the race there will be photographers set up to take pictures of the runners as they pass through.  You are able to view all of the pictures after the race.  These pictures are a great way to commemorate the experience and see shots of yourself in action throughout the event.

For those of you who actively compete, you will be glad to know that the races are timed so that you can measure you own personal records.  There is also tracking available so that friends and family can see where you are at on the course and follow your race online!
