5 Reasons We Love Walt Disney World’s Deluxe Resorts

The deluxe resort tier of Disney resorts is by far my favorite.  Budgets can get in the way and may have you questioning why you might be willing to spend extra money on a deluxe resort.  I can definitely help fill that in!  Here are the top 5 reasons why we are so in love with Disney’s deluxe resorts:

5. There are extra amenities and services.

The deluxe resorts offer a whole new level of amenities that just aren’t typically at the other resort tiers.  These resorts have spa and salon services, boating and other recreation, tours and guest activities, etc.  If you visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you will find tons of free activities for resort guests that involve stories, animal encounters, feedings, etc.  Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort you can learn to hula and experience island-style music performed live.  Disney’s Wilderness Lodge offers a free resort tour where you learn more about the architecture and design for the resort, as well as an opportunity to be the family that puts the flag out at the top of the resort each day.  With all these great added perks, it really adds to the prestige of staying at one of these resorts.

4. The dining options are absolutely amazing!

The deluxe resorts usually have quick service options, a pool-side restaurant and multiple table-service experiences.  Some of our favorite restaurants in all of Walt Disney World are located at the deluxe resorts.  ‘Ohana is one of the best on property and you find that location at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.  California Grill is another favorite and that is at the top of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  There are so many others, too.  The other great thing is that with all these great food options, a lot of the menus are available for in-room dining if you don’t feel like trying to get a reservation or dining in the dining room!

3. Club level room options are available.

A stay in a club level room at Walt Disney World is one of the most grand, prestigious stays that you can have on property.  This level of room is only offered at the deluxe resorts, too.  The room costs more, but with the added cost you get access to the club level lounge with food and drinks (even alcoholic beverages) served most of the day, access to the Itinerary Planning Office to make all of your dining reservations in advance for you and a special concierge desk in the lounge to check you in/out and handle anything that you need.  There is also a nightly turndown service with treats, too.  The rooms are typically grouped together on a specific floor or in a specific building that is conveniently located with the club lounge.  Plus, Club level guests are now offered an opportunity to purchase more FastPass selections if interested. Club level is amazing and will have you feeling like royalty during your stay.

2. The rooms are usually larger.

The guest rooms tend to go up in size based on the tier of the resort.  The deluxe resorts are among the bigger rooms on property, so if you are travelling as a family of 4 or 5 staying in one room, you might find the deluxe rooms to give you a little more space.  The added amenities in the rooms come in handy, too.  If you are staying in a deluxe villa you will find a kitchenette and possibly even a washer/dryer in the room.  The size of the room may not sound like much on paper, but once you have the space it is hard to do without it!

1. The location and proximity to other areas within Walt Disney World is convenient.

The deluxe resorts are usually the most optimally located resorts.  All of the resorts in the Magic Kingdom theme park area are all deluxe resorts (Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, Contemporary, and Wilderness Lodge).  The Disney-owned resorts that resort right around the Boardwalk with water transportation to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are also all deluxe resorts (Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk Inn).  Animal Kingdom Lodge is located extremely close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and has its own African savanna where you can view animals from your rooms.  The proximity to the major theme parks makes the locations extremely desirable.  There is typically additional transportation to the buses available via boat and/or monorail. It can save a lot of time and be a lot more fun to use the alternative transportation and decrease the amount of time spend going between places.

Warning: Once you stay in a Disney deluxe resort, you won’t want to stay anywhere else!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
