7 Awesome Things About The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Fort Wilderness Cabin
Fort Wilderness Cabin

Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort is tucked away in over 700 acres of a shady pine tree forest.  Step foot on the resort grounds and the concrete paths and park turnstiles are forgotten.  It is truly hard to believe you are staying just miles away from a bustling theme park!  The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness are one of a kind featuring  spacious accommodations for 6 adults.  These charming log cabins are nestled in the forest and offer plenty of privacy.  It feels like a home away from home verses staying at a typical hotel guest room. If I haven’t sold you already, here are 7 awesome things about The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

7. Affordable Option for Families-

The Cabins are featured in Disney’s Moderate Resort category but still offer the family suite set up.  The room rates are always a few hundred dollars less than the other Deluxe resort family suites.  The Cabins are also consistently cheaper than the value resort, Disney’s Art of Animation.  If traveling with a larger family and on a tight budget, the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is a top pick!

6. Tri-Circle D Ranch Pony Rides-

Located at the Tri-Circle D Ranch in Disney’s Ft. Wilderness you will find petite pony rides for $8.  Old fashioned wagon rides are also available for $8.  Horse lovers may even catch a glimpse of Cinderella’s ponies and the Main Street U.S.A horses while visiting the ranch.  A fun afternoon for the entire family and a perfect break from the busy theme parks.  If you snag a cabin reservation during the holidays be sure to check out the horse drawn sleigh rides through the resort!

5. Great Location-

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort has a wonderful location for the room price.  It is located in the Magic Kingdom resort area among all the high dollar Deluxe Resorts. Its proximity to the parks is a big perk to staying at the cabins.  My favorite part is the boat ride to Magic Kingdom. That itself is an attraction the entire family can appreciate!  Water taxi and bus transportation is available.

4. Personal Grill & Spacious Kitchen-

A charming and functional addition to your Cabin is a charcoal grill right out front your door. Have your own family cook out right outside your room, no fighting for an open table or grill to use. What a great way to save a little money on food while have a relaxing meal. The cabins also feature a fairly large kitchen with a full size refrigerator, oven, and dining room table.

3. Tons of Recreation-

As a guest of the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort you have access to some really great recreation options.  If you are fortunate to have a long stay at Walt Disney World, it is nice to take some down time away from the theme parks.  They offer swimming pools, jogging trails, bike rentals, boat & kayak rentals, basketball, archery, volleyball, fishing, and of course the pony rides.  Some are complimentary and some cost a small fee.

2. The Electric Water Pageant-

Make sure to walk over to Bay Lake around 9:45PM to catch the Electric Water Pageant. The light up parade floats right by the resort.  Looking for a quiet spot to view the Happily Ever After Fireworks?  You can also catch a glimpse of the show from here.  The resort even pipes in the music so you can enjoy the full experience. Not quite as close as standing on Main Street U.S.A!

1. Chip ‘N’ Dale Campfire Sing-A-Long-

Nightly you will find Chip ‘N’ Dale at the campfire.  Singing songs, roasting marshmallows, and watching a Disney movie.  All under the stars of the Fort Wilderness Campground.  Now that pretty much takes top spot of all the resort nightly movie showings.  The Chuck Wagon sells smore’s kits and other snacks but the secret is you can bring your own! So plan to bring a few snacks, even some hot coco or wine, and enjoy the show.  This is free and is a hidden gem of Disney.

About Lauren Young

My name is Lauren Young.  My first trip to Disney was as a toddler before I could even remember Mickey and Main Street.  We've celebrated family reunions to first dates in the happiest place on earth! Fast forward to today where I enjoy seeing the magic of Disney World through the eyes of my three kids. I'm a proud Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer wife, stay at home mom of three under the age of 5, wannabe domestic goddess, a writer, and a southern Georgia peach thru and thru! Before my kiddos took over my 9 to 5 (or shall I say MY ENTIRE LIFE), I happily worked in the travel industry.  My days were filled with planning corporate retreats & beach weddings at a beautiful resort on the Oregon Coast.  Well I tossed the sand filled high heels and have fully embraced the spit up stained loungers life.  But a girl still has to make time for her other loves, right?  So in those spare minutes of the day you will find me blogging on my travel website, Swoon Me Away (www.swoonmeaway.com).  I also enjoy trying to be crafty, planning fabulous parties and daydreaming about my next Disney vacation!
