7 Facts & Secrets About Walt Disney World’s FastPass

Every guest who enjoys a vacation in Walt Disney World wants to experience and enjoy as much as possible in their time there. Since the vacation destination is so popular, the parks can be very crowded during busy seasons like the summer and the holidays. One of the best ways to save time and still enjoy amazing attractions and experiences is by utilizing the FastPass system. FastPasses are available to all guests in Walt Disney World and act as a sort of reservation which assigns guests a specific time to visit an attraction or experience to enjoy it with little to no wait time. While FastPasses are amazing things to use to save time on a Walt Disney World vacation, some guests might not realize all of the features and details about them. By learning the facts and secrets about FastPasses, guests can be sure to make the most of them and save as much time as possible while on a Disney vacation! Here are seven facts and secrets about Walt Disney World’s FastPass system.

1.     Book Them In Advance —

FastPasses are most effective when booked as far in advance as possible. Since only so many FastPasses are available for a particular attraction or experience at a given time, guests who book far in advance are more likely to score the FastPasses that they want. Guests who stay on property at a Walt Disney World Resort can book their FastPasses up to sixty days in advance of their arrival date, and those staying off property can book up to thirty days in advance.

2.     Initially Book Three Per Day In One Park —

When booking FastPasses in advance, guests are entitled to book up to three per day. These three FastPasses can be any combination of attractions so long as they are all located in one park. Guests are only able to book those three advanced FastPasses for one park per day, making it a great idea to come up with a tentative schedule for each day of a vacation.

3.     Can Book More After The Initial Three —

Once guests have used the initial three FastPasses that they booked in advance, they are free to book more FastPasses for that particular day. Guests can use the My Disney Experience App to check out what FastPasses are available for attractions and experiences in any of the four theme parks and are welcome to continue to book new FastPasses after using each new additional one. This process is great for guests who love to park hop as they can use their previously booked three FastPasses in one park in the morning and book additional ones for another park to enjoy later that afternoon or evening.

4.     Choose Popular Attractions First —

Since FastPasses allow guests to avoid high wait times typically found on stand-by queues in the popular months, it is the most logical approach to book them for very popular attractions which tend to have the longest overall waits. By avoiding the longest lines via the FastPass queue, guests save more time than ever leaving them plenty of opportunities to enjoy other experiences. Some of the best options to book FastPasses for are the Avatar Flight of Passage, Na’vi River Journey, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, Frozen Ever After, Soarin’ Around the World, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Kali River Rapids, Expedition Everest, and Dinosaur.

5.     Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom Have Tiers —

While booking their three FastPasses in advanced, guests might notice that not all of the parks are set up the same way. While guests can choose any three attractions or experiences for FastPasses in the Magic Kingdom, there are tiers set up for Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Those three parks feature their attractions and experiences broken down into two tiers, with the most popular experiences gathered in one tier. Guests are only allowed to book one FastPass in advance from the more popular tier and then choose two other experiences from the second tier. For example, Tier One at Animal Kingdom includes the two popular Pandora attractions, Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. This means you can only book one of these two to FastPass in your initial three FastPass selections.

6.     Can Edit With The My Disney Experience App —

Guests who take advantage of the FastPass system in Walt Disney World definitely need to download the My Disney Experience App. The app has a ton of convenient features including access to edit and change FastPasses on the go. Sure, you can still head to a FP+ Kiosk but it’s much more convenient to simply pull out your phone.

7.     Guests Can Choose Different Experiences —

One of the best features of FastPasses is the ability for different members of a group of guests to choose different experiences. Say some guests traveling together want to enjoy Space Mountain while others would prefer a calmer experience? Not a problem as parties do not have to all book the same FastPasses but rather can pick and choose the ones they want individually.

About Caitlin Kane

Caitlin Kane first started visiting Walt Disney World when she was two years old, and despite spending most of that trip quarantined with the chicken pox she managed to fall in love with the place. Visiting WDW every year since, she especially loves learning all about the history and small details of the parks and eating/drinking her way through the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival each fall. When she's not in Disney, Caitlin lives in New York and spends her time counting down the days to her next trip.
