7. Transportation options

Fort Wilderness is located in the Magic Kingdom resort area, which will put you very close to the action. From the docks at Fort Wilderness you can take boat transportation directly to the Magic Kingdom and the other Magic Kingdom area resorts. This will give you access to many more restaurant and entertainment options in addition to all of the options right at Fort Wilderness. The transportation really makes it convenient to access so much of Walt Disney World Resort has to offer that it is a major perk to staying at Fort Wilderness. Don’t worry! You still have the buses to get you around the resort and to all of the parks. The boats are just an amazing bonus!

6. Recreation activities galore

You can do so much at this resort. There are the horse stables where you can go and visit the animals that are there. You can even schedule a horseback riding session or a carriage ride around the grounds. You can also show up for the regular wagon rides that depart every so often for another fun experience to explore. There are also bike rentals available to bike around property. It is great exercise and yet another great way to see the amazing wilderness. You also have fun activities going on at the pools with games and fun to keep guests entertained. Once it gets dark you have the Chip and Dale campfire sing-a-long that takes place most nights. It’s one of the only free character events outside of the parks, so it is a great activity to enjoy. Bring your own s’mores fixin’s or buy them at the mercantile! After the campfire is the movie under the stars which is a blast for the whole family. There is so much to do that you could easily spend tons of time enjoying the resort to break up the busy days at the parks and never have a dull moment!

5. Full kitchen and grill convenience

In the cabins you have fully equipped kitchen! The best part is that the amazing Disney cast will take care of all of the dishes! You can save money by cooking a few meals for the family and enjoy the amazing cabin and wildlife while you dine. Not only do you have a kitchen, but you also have a grill and your own picnic table. You’ll have an amazing time grilling out and relaxing outside with your family. It is a great way to save a little bit of money on dining and still have delicious meals! If you are flying in, you can also order groceries from Disney’s store and have them stocked and ready for your arrival, so it is one less thing that you have to worry about when you arrive.

4. Lots of dining options

We talked about how you can cook right at your cabin, and how you can easily access restaurants at the parks or some of the other resorts. Let’s not forget about all of the amazing show and dining experiences that are right within the resort! There are 2 table-service options at Fort Wilderness. Hoop Dee Doo Revue is a dinner show that is a set price (but also includes gratuity and alcohol) that is a ton of fun and an experience unlike any other on property. There is also a delicious table-service restaurant (which is a buffet at breakfast and dinner) called Trails End Restaurant. It is delicious and perfect western-inspired food to fit the theme of the whole resort. You also have quick service options, too if you are just looking for quick meals without a reservation. Who would have thought that you could have so many amazing culinary experiences in the wilderness?

3. Trails and golf cart fun.

There are trails galore all throughout the compound. You can walk all over and enjoy the scenery. There is the traditional natural scenery and wildlife, but there is also the decorations from the other guests. The guests that are camping at the resort go all out and tend to decorate their campsites, especially at the holidays. There is just so much to see and experience that you can’t see it all. This is the only resort that also offers golf cart rentals. You can use the golf cart to get from your cabin to the various amenities on property and you can take your family on a self-guided tour all over the resort. It is so much fun and you’ll never tire of the beautiful surroundings.

2. More room to spread out

The cabins sleep up to 6 adults, comfortably. Plus you have more living space to enjoy with your family. You also have the amazing outside area included with you cabin that includes a grill and picnic area. There is so much room for the entire family to lounge and enjoy a relaxing stay at the resort. It is a great perk, especially if you aren’t completely focused on just being in the parks all the time.

1. Peace and quiet

This is one of the peaceful and serene Disney resorts. You are surrounded by amazing wildlife roaming the grounds and lush, green trees and plants. The cabins aren’t super close together, so you have a little bit of privacy and quiet that you don’t always get in a hotel-type environment. You can hear the crickets chirping at night and enjoy the stars in the sky. What’s more relaxing than that after a long day of fun and play? It is definitely a great way to do Disney!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
