Port Orleans-Riverside is a beautiful resort that is located fairly close to Epcot and Magic Kingdom. It is filled with New Orleans elegance and charm and feels very relaxing in the middle of a very busy vacation. Here are 7 secrets that most people don’t know about the resort:

7. You can walk to and use the amenities at Port Orleans – French Quarter.

The resorts seem like they are far way, but actually you can easily walk from Riverside to French Quarter. French Quarter are where the beignets are, so there is definitely motivation to take a trip. You can also enjoy the pool at French Quarter if you want to experience something a little different.

6. You can take a horse-drawn carriage ride.

These are so much fun, and romantic for those looking for a little alone time around the grounds. You can make reservations for them in advance through Disney Recreation or can try to walk-up and get in if there is availability. Reservations do start 180 days in advance and are recommended. The ride takes you around the property and by the river area.

5. There are Royal Guest Room options.

The Royal Guest Rooms are decorated and themed after Princess and the Frog. They are beautifully decorated to make you really feel like royalty. They also have a fiber-optic light firework show that goes off on the headboards of the beds. The artwork features Tiana and themes from the movie, and the whole feel of the room is one that is more luxurious in its feel, especially for a moderate resort. These come at an extra cost, but is worth it if you want a more deluxe feel without paying the price for a deluxe resort.

4. You can take a boat to Disney Springs.

Who doesn’t love Disney transportation? The water transportation is so convenient and much more fun that always taking the buses everywhere. The boat takes you right to Disney Springs where you have numerous shops and restaurants at your fingertips to enjoy. It is a huge perk to have additional transportation options besides the buses, which most moderate resorts do not offer.

3. There is 1 table-service restaurant.

Boatwright’s Dining Hall is located at this resort. The restaurant is themed after boats and particularly constructing a boat. The food is New Orleans inspired and has lots of various seafood options for you to enjoy as well. Reservations open 180 days in advance, so if you know you will be staying here and want to give it a try, it would be a good idea to make a reservation, especially during peak seasons. If you are like us and prefer table-service locations to quick-service locations, you definitely don’t want to miss out!

2. Numerous activities and amenities.

There are so many different activities that happen all over the resort (and don’t forget that you can check out the activities at Port Orleans – French Quarter, too). You have various pool games and events, a campfire with a movie under the stars, Bayou Pirate Adventure (additional charge), bike rentals and even an arcade. There is so much fun stuff to do around the resort that you will definitely want to add a few of these to your itinerary. It is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle within the parks.

1. There are 6 pools.

Yes, you read that right…6! There is the large pool that includes a 95 foot water slide. Then, there are 5 quiet pools located all around the resort. The 5 quiet pools are open 24×7, but don’t have lifeguards on duty. This gives you several options to take a dip in the pool and enjoy a little bit of relaxation between your park time, dinner and other activities.
