Guests who choose to stay on property while visiting Walt Disney World have tons of options when it comes to choosing a resort. Each resort boasts a unique theme ranging from the South Pacific to the styles and fads of each decade of the nineteen hundreds. No matter what resort guests decide is the best fit for them, they are treated to beautiful themes and details, relaxing pools, easy transportation, and tons of amenities to make a stay at Walt Disney World magical. Upon arriving to check in at a resort, there are also several things that simply must occur to kick off a vacation the right way. 8. Hear “Welcome Home” –

Cast Members at the main entrances or front desks of the resorts love saying this to gests who are checking in or returning from a day in the parks. Hearing this phrase upon arriving for the first time at a resort signifies for many guests that the vacation has officially begun!

7. Check In –

Obviously checking in has to occur pretty much right away when arriving at any resort if you haven’t already done so on your My Disney Experience App. Be sure to double check that any special requests like a particular room view or needed items like a crib or cot were provided in the room assigned by the front desk. It also is a great idea to simply confirm the length of stay, number of beds, ticket package, and dining plan for your vacation just to make sure that everything is in line and there are no surprises once the vacation starts.

6. Unpack –

It can be tempting to just take off for the parks the second the bags are put down, but it is a great idea to unpack once in the room. Unpacking allow for things to be organized upon returning to the room after a long day in the parks, and also allows for the chance to access anything needed for the day ahead like sunscreen, a change of clothes, or a poncho. Taking a few minutes to unpack just makes life easier for the rest of the vacation.

5. Watch Stacey –

Unpacking can also be entertaining once Stacey is turned on! One of the first things to do when arriving to a resort and entering the room is to turn on the television and tune into Stacey. She is the host of a list of must dos throughout Walt Disney World and her segment showcases everything from attractions to water parks. Stacey is fun, upbeat, and definitely can get you hyped for the vacation that is just starting!

4. Pick Up the Resort Mug –

Each resort offers a refillable mug for purchase in its quick service dining location or food court. Guests who are participating in the Disney Dining Plan will receive the mug for free and all other guests can purchase the mug to cover their entire length of stay for around eighteen dollars. These mugs are totally worth the cost as they allow a guest to stop and grab a drink at any point throughout their stay at the resort. With sodas and other drink options coming in at around four dollars each, the mug quickly becomes cost efficient. Picking up the mug when first arriving at the resort ensures that a guest will be able to start using it right away and get their money’s worth!

3. Get the Lay of the Land –

It is a good idea to check out the resort map provided upon check in just to find out where everything is located. While some resorts like Port Orleans French Quarter are on the smaller side, other resorts are downright massive and can be hard to navigate without some prior knowledge. Be sure to make a note of where the dining locations, front desk, pool, and closest bus stop are to avoid time wasted wandering around.

2. Plug in Chargers –

Much like unpacking, plugging in any needed chargers and power cords upon arrival is a good idea. Who wants to get home at the end of a long and fun day in the parks and have to go searching for an outlet to plug their phone into? Taking a few minutes to locate outlets and get chargers set up upon arrival pays off at the end of the day.

1. Get on the Bus! –

One of the most important first things to do at a resort upon arrival on a Disney vacation is to head to the parks! So after doing a few things at the resort to make sure the rest of the vacation runs smoothly, get on that bus, boat, monorail, or Skyliner and get to those parks to have some fun!

About Caitlin Kane

Caitlin Kane first started visiting Walt Disney World when she was two years old, and despite spending most of that trip quarantined with the chicken pox she managed to fall in love with the place. Visiting WDW every year since, she especially loves learning all about the history and small details of the parks and eating/drinking her way through the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival each fall. When she's not in Disney, Caitlin lives in New York and spends her time counting down the days to her next trip.
