Bob Iger Gets a New Title: Doctor!

Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, will be honored with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree at Ithaca College’s 130th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 18. Iger, a 1973 graduate of the college’s television-radio program, has long been a supporter of the institution and its mission.

The honorary doctorate will be awarded by the Ithaca College Board of Trustees, which bestows these honors based on recommendations from the faculty. The Board recognizes leaders who reflect the ideals and values that Ithaca College holds dear, acknowledging individuals whose achievements embody the institution’s character and mission.

Ithaca College President La Jerne Terry Cornish expressed her admiration for Iger, noting:

“There are a multitude of ways in which Bob Iger is truly deserving of this honor. We deeply appreciate his contributions to Ithaca College, our students, and the community at large. Our institutional mission is to educate, engage, and empower through theory, practice, and performance, and he is the personification of that mission.”

Iger’s illustrious career began at ABC, where he honed his skills across various facets of the television industry, including news, sports, entertainment, and business affairs. His career trajectory set him apart as one of the most influential business leaders of his time, leading Disney to unprecedented growth and innovation in the media and entertainment sectors.
