On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, part of Walt Disney World Resort’s Monorail system unexpectedly shut down due to a technical issue, leaving many guests stranded at Magic Kingdom Park and EPCOT. Riders who had planned to use the Monorail for transportation were left waiting for alternate forms of transport, causing a major inconvenience at two of the Central Florida resort’s busiest theme parks.
For decades, the Monorail has been a beloved symbol of Walt Disney World Resort, embodying Walt Disney’s vision for futuristic transportation. The system connects several major locations, including the Express Monorail between the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and Magic Kingdom; the Disney Resort line that connects Magic Kingdom Park and the TTC with Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa; and the EPCOT Monorail line, which travels between the TTC and EPCOT. Tuesday’s sudden service halt impacted countless guests’ plans, especially those traveling between the two Disney parks.
Redditor u/GalaxyC7 shared their experience with the shutdown and asked the Disney Parks fan community if the disruption affected all of the Monorail lines.
“I saw the Monorail from EPCOT to MK was down, are they all down today or is it just the one?” the Disney Park guest wrote. “We went and parked at Comtempo, hoping to not have to walk over to MK but if we do no big deal.”
The ten-minute walking journey from Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom felt much less appealing in the intense Florida heat.
“This heat might make it more trouble than it’s worth,” the social media user added.
While parts of the Monorail system were in operation later in the day, issues continued. A video shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @akademanda showed Monorail Coral leaking during a heavy rainstorm on Tuesday afternoon.
