The Walt Disney Company has officially scrubbed one of the last remaining reminders of its controversial former CEO, Bob Chapek—and this time, it’s permanent.

Nearly three years after Bob Chapek was ousted from The Walt Disney Company, a quiet but symbolic change has taken place on Disney Cruise Line’s private island, Castaway Cay. A sign once bearing his name—“Bob Chapek, Master Ship Builder”—has now been completely replaced.

The original sign was displayed on the Pump House 1 building near the island’s pier. It was quietly taken down just days after his abrupt departure in 2022, but no replacement was installed—until now. According to WDWNT, a new, nearly identical plaque has finally appeared in its place. It reads: “Joe Schott, Master Ship Builder.”

Schott, who was appointed President of Disney Signature Experiences earlier this year, now oversees Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, Storyliving by Disney, and Aulani – A Disney Resort & Spa. The department falls under the broader Disney Experiences division and reports directly to Josh D’Amaro.

D’Amaro, who currently serves as Disney Experiences Chairman, is also referenced on Castaway Cay’s Pump House 1 Building. One weathered sign reads, “D’Amaro Dock Trawling Co. Offices: The Ocean’s Harvest.” Even current CEO Bob Iger is playfully acknowledged on the island with a fence sign that reads “Captain Bob Iger, Shrimp Distributors.”

But Chapek’s name is gone for good.

Chapek is often blamed for many of The Walt Disney Company’s most divisive decisions, like the Disney+ rollout, the 21st Century FOX merger, and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel at Walt Disney World Resort. The immersive Star Wars experience operated for just 18 months before closing permanently.

What was once a tongue-in-cheek tribute has now become a subtle reminder of just how far Disney has moved on. Nearly three years later, there’s no trace left of Bob Chapek on Castaway Cay…For many fans, that speaks volumes.
