Harry Potter star Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger, has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding last year. The 35-year-old actress, now a student at the University of Oxford, was found to be driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford on July 31, 2024.

Speeding Incident and Court Outcome

Watson, who was behind the wheel of a blue Audi, had already accumulated nine points on her driving license prior to the speeding incident. As a result, she was ordered to pay a £1,044 fine at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court. Although the actress did not attend the brief five-minute hearing, her lawyer, Mark Haslam, assured the court that Watson was able to pay the fine due to her current status as a student.

Watson has been pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford since 2023, following her acting career. Her legal team emphasized her financial capability to pay the fine despite the speeding charge. She is in a position to pay the fine,” Haslam stated in court.

A Star’s Road to Academic Pursuits

Since wrapping up her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, Watson has taken a step back from the entertainment industry to focus on her education. Known for her advocacy for women’s rights and her role as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Watson’s recent focus on her studies in creative writing further solidifies her academic aspirations.

Emma Watson rose to fame in 2001 with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and starred in eight Harry Potter films over the following decade. Watson’s career continued after the franchise, with notable roles in films like Beauty and the Beast, The Bling Ring, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Her career trajectory has evolved from child star to a strong advocate for social issues, and now, an accomplished student.
