For theme park fans, Universal Studios Japan has long been a bucket-list destination — a place where Mario Kart races, Hogwarts castles, and Jurassic jungles all coexist within a few walkable acres. The park’s rapid expansion in recent years has only added to its appeal. But for those planning repeat visits, another change is coming: higher annual pass prices.

The Osaka-based park has steadily rolled out new experiences. In 2024, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD expanded with Donkey Kong Country, adding the Mine Cart Madness attraction. That followed the arrival of the park’s Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast and the debut of Minions Land at Universal Studios Singapore, part of a broader wave of global investments by the company.

Even outside Japan, the Universal brand has been on the move. Universal Studios Hollywood is currently building Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a high-speed outdoor coaster that will cross over the park’s iconic escalators. In Florida, Universal Orlando Resort opened the long-awaited Epic Universe earlier this year and has hinted at even more to come, including a possible Wicked-inspired expansion.

Another Step in a Series of Increases

The latest price change for Universal Studios Japan is scheduled for November 4, 2025. The Universal Prime Annual Pass Standard will rise from ¥21,000 ($143) to ¥22,000 ($150), while the Universal Prime Annual Pass Grand Royal will increase from ¥48,800 ($332) to ¥50,800 ($346) per adult.

It’s not the first adjustment in recent memory. The Standard pass went from ¥20,000 to ¥21,000 in November 2024, just as Universal Orlando Resort quietly raised food prices at restaurants such as Minion Cafe and The Three Broomsticks in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Fans in Florida have also speculated that annual pass rates could jump in 2026 if access to Epic Universe is folded into the offering.

Crowds, Value, and Comparisons

Universal Studios Japan has built a reputation for offering more attractions than its Hollywood counterpart, yet it remains less expensive to visit on an annual pass basis. Passes for Universal Studios Hollywood start at $299 and can reach $599, depending on blackout dates and benefits.

The Osaka park’s value also stacks up favorably against Tokyo Disney Resort, which has not reinstated its annual pass program since suspending it during the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, the dense crowds at Universal Studios Japan can test even the most patient guests, particularly during peak travel seasons.

The park’s themed lands include Hollywood, New York City, San Francisco, Jurassic Park, Minion Park, Universal Wonderland (which recently reopened its Snoopy area), WaterWorld, Amity Village, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD — now featuring Donkey Kong Country — remains a major draw, with timed-entry systems often required to manage demand.

For visitors, the new pricing may be a small increase on paper. But for loyal fans returning year after year, it’s another reminder that the cost of keeping up with Universal’s ever-expanding attractions is slowly but surely rising.
