Fresh reports of major technical problems have surfaced regarding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Walt Disney World Resort, adding to the growing list of operational challenges that have defined the attraction since its summer 2024 opening. The Frontierland log flume ride underwent a complete transformation from the former Splash Mountain, debuting at Magic Kingdom Park during the summer months before Disneyland Resort launched its own version the following November.
Background on The Princess and the Frog (2009) Attraction
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a themed overlay constructed on the existing infrastructure of the original Splash Mountain water ride. The reimagining draws from The Princess and the Frog, Disney’s 2009 animated film, featuring Princess Tiana portrayed by Anika Noni Rose, Prince Naveen brought to life by Bruno Campos, Louis performed by Michael-Leon Wooley, and Mama Odie voiced by Jenifer Lewis. The storyline involves these characters organizing a search for musical talent to headline a New Orleans-style party.
The decision to retheme Splash Mountain stemmed from ongoing controversy surrounding the attraction’s source material. Splash Mountain drew characters and settings from The Song of the South, a 1946 Disney film that’s faced widespread criticism and effective banning due to its offensive and racist representation of post-Civil War conditions for Black Americans in the South. Tokyo Disney Resort is now the only Disney park worldwide with an operational Splash Mountain.
History of Technical Complications
Technical difficulties became apparent even before Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially opened its doors to paying Walt Disney World Resort guests. Multiple preview sessions arranged specifically for Disney cast members and Annual Passholders faced unexpected cancellations hours before Magic Kingdom Park’s evening closure.
Following the public debut, operational problems continued plaguing the attraction with concerning regularity. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would close unexpectedly for extended periods—sometimes lasting multiple hours—on a weekly basis throughout the subsequent months. Disney Park guests who managed to experience the ride during operational periods frequently encountered audio-animatronic figures that had ceased moving entirely while their accompanying dialogue and sound effects continued playing normally.
By the time Disneyland Resort opened its version of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in November 2024, many of the technical issues present in the Florida installation seemed to have been resolved by Walt Disney Imagineering teams. Reports from Magic Kingdom Park indicated a substantial decrease in closure incidents during this timeframe.
Despite these improvements, challenges with the Walt Disney World Resort attraction’s advanced audio-animatronic figures persisted. Over time, it appeared that the theme park had abandoned efforts to maintain all animatronic characters in perfect working condition for every guest interaction.
Latest Reports From Magic Kingdom Park

One video shows an interior portion of the attraction consumed by darkness so complete that riders couldn’t observe any of the themed scenery or decorative elements surrounding them.
Another clip features a Princess Tiana audio-animatronic displaying minimal movement capabilities. The figure’s neck bends backward in a manner that appears physically impossible and visually disturbing.
The third video captures Mama Odie positioned on the ride’s final ascending section. The animatronic’s mouth articulated in perfect synchronization with the character’s audio dialogue, yet every other part of the figure remained completely static and unmoving.
No Official Response From Disney
Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t provided any official communication regarding these reported technical failures affecting Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The status of repairs for the specific issues documented in the December videos also remains unknown to the public. The Central Florida vacation destination rarely issues statements about individual attraction maintenance concerns unless extended closures become necessary or guest safety considerations arise.

What did you expect?! I warned and told every liar and misguided that it is never going to work and be successful. And the other park projects under Iger will obviously never work either. It’s time the company reversed everything in the park back as it was, including bringing back the past and original attractions, including the More successful original Splash Mountain, Rivers of America, Muppet Vision 3D, Dinoland, Mike Fink’s keelboats, Horizons, Wonders of Life, Ellen’s Universe of Energy, Mickey’s Toontown, Streets of America, the original Star Tours, the Original Pirates ride with the wenches, the original Jungle Cruise with the natives and Trader Joe, the original Country Bear Jamboree, Studio Backlot Tour, The Great Movie Ride, 20,000 Leagues under the sea ride, etc. It’s the only way to fix this mess!
