“There Will Be Hell to Pay”: Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Threatens Disney After Being Banned for Hosting a ‘Political Rally’ on Property

The fragile peace between the Walt Disney World Resort and the Florida political establishment has shattered on the very first day of 2026. James Fishback, a Republican candidate for Florida Governor and outspoken CEO of Azoria Partners, is making national headlines after being forcibly removed and trespassed from Disney property during the peak of the holiday season.

In a blistering response to his ban, Fishback has issued a high-stakes ultimatum to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Citing “blatant political discrimination,” the candidate warned that if Disney does not offer a formal apology and sit down for a meeting to discuss their treatment of Floridians, there will be “hell to pay” in the upcoming legislative session.

The Confrontation

The incident occurred as thousands of guests gathered at the Walt Disney World Resort to ring in the holiday season. Fishback, who is running an “aggressive affordability” campaign to succeed Governor Ron DeSantis, attempted to host a spontaneous “community dialogue” with voters at a high-traffic area near Disney Springs.

However, Disney’s security team quickly classified the gathering as an unauthorized political rally. Citing ironclad property rules that prohibit solicitation and political campaigning, Disney security escorted Fishback from the grounds. The encounter ended with the candidate receiving a permanent trespass warning, legally barring him from all Disney-owned parks and resorts in Florida.

Fishback wasted no time taking the fight to social media. “I was there to listen to the people Disney is pricing out of their own backyard,” Fishback posted on X. “Instead, I was met with security goons and a trespass notice. Bob Iger needs to understand that Florida belongs to Floridians, not a board of directors in Burbank.”

The Letter to Bob Iger: A Threat of “Hell to Pay”

On the morning of January 1, 2026, Fishback published an open letter to Bob Iger that has since gone viral. The letter does not just demand an apology; it serves as a legislative warning shot. Fishback, an investor who has previously advised on federal efficiency efforts, argued that Disney’s unique tax status and land-use privileges are not “rights,” but “revocable gifts” from the people of Florida.

The most controversial line of the letter has become a rallying cry for his supporters:

“If you think you can continue to treat Florida’s leaders and citizens with this level of contempt while enjoying our tax breaks, you are mistaken. If I do not receive a formal apology and a meeting to rectify this discrimination, there will be hell to pay when I am in the Governor’s mansion.”

Fishback’s platform includes abolishing property taxes and ending “corporate special interests,” leading many to believe that his “hell to pay” comment refers to a total dismantling of Disney’s remaining self-governing perks and tax incentives.

The Legal Battle: Private Property vs. The Candidate

Legal analysts are divided on the optics of the situation, though Disney remains on firm legal ground regarding property rights. Under Florida law, Disney World is private property. Their guest code of conduct explicitly prohibits:

  • Political campaigning and solicitation.
  • The distribution of unapproved materials.
  • Unsanctioned demonstrations or rallies.

However, Fishback is challenging the notion that a company controlling nearly 40 square miles of Florida land can operate as a “private bubble” immune to free speech. His campaign argues that Disney’s role as a “state-like entity” should subject it to the exact constitutional requirements as a public square. This legal theory could lead to a landmark Supreme Court case if Fishback pursues litigation.

Impact on the 2026 Florida Governor’s Race

James Fishback is currently locked in a fierce GOP primary against U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds. While Donalds has the endorsement of President Trump, Fishback is positioning himself as the “unfiltered” fighter who is willing to go further than anyone else to protect Floridians from corporate overreach.

By forcing a confrontation with Disney, Fishback is leaning into the “anti-woke” energy of the DeSantis era while adding his own aggressive financial spin. For his base, the “hell to pay” comment is proof that he won’t be “bought” by the state’s largest employers. For his critics, it is seen as a dangerous threat against a company that provides over 75,000 local jobs.

What to Watch for Next

As of midday on January 1, 2026, Disney has not issued a formal response to Fishback’s letter. Historically, Bob Iger has attempted to move Disney into a “neutral” political space, but Fishback’s direct threat makes a quiet exit unlikely.

The “hell to pay” comment has already begun trending on social media, with both supporters and detractors of the candidate weighing in on whether Disney has finally met its match in James Fishback.

  1. Sit down somewhere. No politics when we want to leave it all behind us.

    • I 100% agree. This man seems like an entitled jerk. He acts as if rules and regulations do not apply to him and then threatens an organization because he was taught that he is not as special as he thinks he is. I hope he loses the election.

  2. Another politician who believes the “rules” do not apply to him. A land of fantasy & joy should not be subjected to the reality of what politics and all of its misery & angst that come with it.
Though it did clarify, for me, who will not be receiving my vote for Governor.

  3. This guy is a joke. Hell to pay when families need to be some where they can enjoy without political garbage being jammed down their throat. Sounds to me like Disney did their job. Politicians and government need to follow the rules and not just think they are above the laws. Thanks Disney for standing up for your customers. Keep this stuff out of Disney. No apology needed. Voters will have the final word. As long as the government counts our votes.

  4. No politics

  5. I am in Disney’s backyard. I spend much time at our beloved Disney Springs. We don’t want politics there as much as we don’t want all the racist protesters there with their nazi signs and white sheets. Stay out! You are no better than anyone else who tries to hold a public event without a permit. Just what we need, another racist bully in our politics.

  6. Politics do not belong n theme parks. They are for relaxation, shopping, and enjoyment.

  7. Find your own political platform. No apology needed.

  8. I’m a political conservative. Unabashedly, not a proponent of left wing positions. However, its Disney’s property and they make the rules. Threatening them for exercising their rights on their property is unacceptable – full stop.

  9. Another vengeful Florida politician threatening to abuse their political power to intimidate for personal gain private property owners exercising their private property rights. Not someone whom I would vote for as governor. More totalitarian than democratic. Shameful.

  10. Hey fishbine…Disney is private property. Their house, their rules. Go find another porch to pull your political stunt! This is coming from a conservative centrist.
