A Disney park has temporarily closed one of its most well-known attractions.

Short-term ride closures are a routine part of operations at Disney. Attractions regularly pause for maintenance, technical checks, or minor adjustments, particularly those that rely on advanced ride systems and complex animatronics.

Some closures draw more attention than others. That is often the case when an attraction is not just popular, but also represents a unique reinterpretation of a classic Disney concept that does not exist elsewhere in quite the same form.

That situation is now unfolding at one international Disney resort.

A Different Take on a Disney Classic

First unveiled in 1969 at Disneyland, Haunted Mansion blended eerie atmosphere with playful humor, setting it apart from traditional horror attractions with 999 happy haunts. The ride later expanded to Walt Disney World and other resorts, becoming one of Disney’s most recognizable dark rides.

Over time, each park has adapted the attraction to reflect its surroundings. These changes range from exterior design and ride length to tone, narrative emphasis, and thematic integration with nearby lands. Some elements of the ride have also been toned down, with rumors that Disney will scrap the hanging corpse at Disneyland.

At Walt Disney World, Haunted Mansion features a longer ride layout, an expanded graveyard scene, and an exterior designed to fit within Liberty Square. The colonial-style mansion contrasts with Disneyland’s New Orleans–inspired facade.

Disneyland Paris took a more dramatic approach. Phantom Manor is integrated into Frontierland and tells a tragic story tied to Thunder Mesa. The attraction leans heavily into melancholy themes and extended narrative elements, creating a noticeably darker experience.

The most significant departure from the original concept appears at Hong Kong Disneyland. There, Haunted Mansion was replaced entirely with Mystic Manor, an attraction built around enchanted objects rather than ghosts.

Mystic Manor removes the traditional Haunted Mansion storyline altogether. Instead, it follows Lord Henry Mystic, an adventurer and collector, whose home becomes a museum for artifacts gathered by the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.

The attraction is widely known for its trackless ride system and detailed environments. It has often been cited by fans and industry observers as one of the park’s strongest offerings.

Mystic Manor Goes Offline

As of today, Mystic Manor is closed to guests.

According to the Hong Kong Disneyland website, the attraction is suspended from February 24 to March 9, 2026. The park has attributed the closure to “operational adjustments.”

No further details have been provided regarding the nature of the work. Given the relatively short timeframe, the closure is widely understood to be routine maintenance rather than a refurbishment or retheme.

During the closure, guests will be unable to experience the attraction’s central storyline, which revolves around Albert, Lord Henry Mystic’s companion and the catalyst for the ride’s events.

The park’s official description outlines Albert’s role in the narrative:

During an expedition, Lord Henry Mystic discovered a young monkey entangled in the web of a monstrous spider. He rescued the monkey and named him Albert. Taken with Albert and the tropical locale, Lord Henry decided to stay—christening the area Mystic Point and his home Mystic Manor.

Mystic Manor was built as a museum for the growing collection of art and artifacts gathered by members of Lord Henry’s team, the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.). And Albert, the foundling monkey, has become a key player in the life of Lord Henry, accompanying him on his adventures and charming members of the S.E.A. with his mischievous nature.

Mystic Manor is not the only attraction currently unavailable at the park. Hyperspace Mountain — the park’s Star Wars-themed version of Space Mountain located in Tomorrowland — is also closed as of today.

That attraction is expected to remain out of operation until late April 2026, further limiting access to some of the park’s major rides during the spring season.

Despite the temporary nature of the closure, Mystic Manor’s suspension stands out due to the attraction’s reputation. It has long been viewed as a defining experience at Hong Kong Disneyland and a clear example of how Disney adapts its classics for different markets.
