A small but visible change at the EPCOT entrance came and went without Walt Disney World Resort ever acknowledging it. Central Florida Disney Park guests arriving at EPCOT by car on Tuesday found the toll plaza looking better than it had in weeks.
Three Weeks Without an Explanation
On or around April 6, the illuminated “welcome” sign at the EPCOT toll plaza was removed. Walt Disney World Resort said nothing about the project, and drivers passing through the entrance had no branding to greet them while the letters were gone.
The sign itself was installed in 2023 as part of a visual refresh tied to EPCOT’s updated identity. The white illuminated letters are styled in the same font as the park’s current logo, giving the toll plaza a cohesive look that aligns with the broader branding overhaul the 43-year-old park has been through over the last several years.
On April 28, Central Florida Disney Parks fans finally got an update on the unannounced toll plaza refurbishment.
The Toll Plaza “Makeover” at EPCOT Revealed
WDWNT reported on Tuesday that the illuminated letters had returned to the toll plaza as of April 28, looking identical to their pre-removal appearance. The outlet posted this image on social media:
But EPCOT guests paying close attention noticed something else: the paneling surrounding and beneath the sign appears to have been cleaned during the time the letters were down, suggesting the removal served a dual purpose: maintaining the sign and refreshing the structure around it.
All toll plaza lanes are fully open, no construction equipment is visible, and Walt Disney World Resort has still not issued any statement about the work. For guests visiting the Central Florida Disney park in the near term, no disruptions or alternate entry instructions are expected.
