One of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival experiences has come to an abrupt and unannounced end, leaving Central Florida Disney Park guests to piece together what happened from a chain-link barrier and a vague sign.

Spike’s Garden, the walkthrough experience housed inside CommuniCore Hall in EPCOT’s World Celebration neighborhood, closed on May 12 without any public announcement from Walt Disney World Resort. WDWNT first reported the closure, which caught many guests off guard, given that the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival — the seasonal event Spike’s Garden is part of — doesn’t officially conclude until June 1, 2026. The early shutdown lands a full 20 days before the festival’s scheduled end date.

Signage and window decals promoting “Sunlight to Starbright in Spike’s Garden” are still plastered across the building’s exterior, but every entrance is now blocked by stanchions and chains. The only communication Walt Disney World Resort has offered guests on the ground is a single sign reading: “This Area is Being Reimagined.”

The Likely Reason Behind the Early Pull

While Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t publicly connected the dots, the timing points clearly point in one direction. Cool KIDS’ Summer — the resort’s seasonal programming push aimed at younger guests — kicks off on May 26, 2026, and one of its centerpiece experiences, GoofyCore, calls CommuniCore Hall home.

GoofyCore made its debut alongside Cool KIDS’ Summer in 2025, quickly establishing itself as one of the more popular offerings for families trying to survive the punishing heat of a Central Florida summer. The experience fills CommuniCore Hall’s air-conditioned interior with Goofy-themed décor and programming, with Goofy and a Disney cast member “Goof Troop” leading children through interactive games and dances.

Transforming the space from Spike’s Garden into a Goofy-ready environment in time for a May 26 launch requires prep work, and 20 days of festival runtime apparently had to be sacrificed to make the schedule work.

The rest of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is expected to continue as scheduled through June 1. Spike’s Garden is the only experience that has been cut short ahead of the seasonal event’s conclusion.
