Disney has shared an update after unexpectedly closing a California Adventure attraction for nearly four months.

While Disney routinely closes attractions for refurbishment, it is typically transparent about how long those closures are expected to last, even when only a rough timeframe is available.

Earlier this year, however, Disney closed Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind for what was initially listed as a two-day refurbishment. The attraction never reopened on schedule, and it remains closed months later.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind first opened at Disney California Adventure in 2019 as part of Pixar Pier. The family-friendly spinning attraction invites guests to ride aboard Memory Movers inspired by Pixar’s Inside Out (2015), traveling through the Headquarters-inspired Imagination Institute while collecting glowing memory orbs representing different emotions.

While it’s not exactly Disney California Adventure’s most popular attraction, it’s a favorite with younger guests, with its absence meaning one less family-friendly ride at the park. Disney California Adventure has historically had a heavier focus on more mature visitors, with rides like Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Incredicoaster catering to older guests.

The good news is that Disney has finally confirmed the ride’s reopening.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind Set To Reopen

The Disneyland Resort website has been updated with operating hours for Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind from June 19 onwards.

Disney hasn’t confirmed the reasons for its lengthy closure. The attraction was previously also closed for refurbishment from January 5 to January 23.

During its latest lengthy closure, it was hidden behind purple construction walls. It’s unclear what, if any, work was done to the ride during this time.

While the walls were still up as of yesterday, guests spotted Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind in action yesterday, suggesting that any ongoing work was nearly complete.

Also confirmed is the reopening of Matterhorn Bobsleds, which is scheduled to return to service at neighboring Disneyland Park on July 24. The reopening means both attractions will be available for at least part of the busy summer season, giving guests more options during one of the resort’s peak periods.

Other ongoing refurbishments include Silly Symphony Swings at California Adventure and Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland Park. Neither has confirmed a reopening date.
