Classic Haunted Mansion To Close in Both Anaheim and Tokyo Within the Week

The happy haunts are preparing to disappear from two Disney parks.

Haunted Mansion has spent decades balancing humor with horror. Guests board Doom Buggies before passing a rattling coffin, Madame Leota’s séance, transparent ballroom dancers, and a graveyard occupied by some of Disney’s most enthusiastic ghosts.

The attraction has several versions worldwide, but no two are identical. Disneyland’s original resembles a stately Southern estate, while Tokyo Disneyland houses its ghosts inside an ominous Gothic mansion in Fantasyland. Both, however, contain the famous 999 inhabitants.

Now, both rides are entering their final days in their traditional forms. Tokyo Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion closes on August 4, 2026, while Disneyland’s attraction in Anaheim follows four days later on August 8.

Two Haunted Mansions Are About to Close

Tokyo Disneyland guests have just two days left to experience the regular Haunted Mansion. The ride will remain unavailable from August 4 through September 14, giving Disney approximately six weeks to complete its seasonal transformation.

It will reopen on September 15 as Haunted Mansion “Holiday Nightmare,” Tokyo Disney Resort’s version of the annual The Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. The seasonal attraction will then continue through January 7, 2027.

The mansion is already scheduled to close again from January 8 through February 4, 2027. That second refurbishment will restore the attraction following nearly four months of Jack Skellington’s holiday takeover.

Disneyland’s shutdown will begin less than one week from now. August 7 will be the final opportunity for guests to ride the California attraction in its classic form before the doors close on August 8.

Unlike Tokyo, Disneyland will need less than two weeks to complete its makeover. Haunted Mansion Holiday is scheduled to return on August 21, the first day of Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort.

The overlay sends Jack Skellington and the residents of Halloween Town into the mansion. Sally appears among the ghosts, Oogie Boogie awaits near the end, and Madame Leota swaps her usual séance for a series of festive incantations.

Disneyland’s ballroom also receives a newly designed gingerbread house every year. The display has become one of the overlay’s most anticipated additions, changing its design, characters, and elaborate sugar-covered details each season.

The Classic Disneyland Ride Could Be Gone for Months

Although Disneyland’s closure lasts just 13 days, the traditional Haunted Mansion will be absent for much longer.

Disney has not yet announced when Haunted Mansion Holiday will end in early 2027. However, the company describes it as a fall-and-winter overlay, and Haunted Mansion Holiday traditionally remains in place throughout Disneyland Resort’s Christmas celebrations.

The resort’s 2026 holiday season runs from November 13 through January 6, 2027. Unless Disney breaks with its usual schedule, guests visiting between August and the beginning of January should expect Jack Skellington rather than the mansion’s regular residents.

That extended run can be frustrating for visitors who prefer the original attraction. Haunted Mansion Holiday may require less than two weeks to install, but it occupies the building for a significant portion of the year.

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion has also changed considerably in recent years. Disney expanded its outdoor queue, added new accessible routes, opened the Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond gift shop, and introduced additional story details around the mansion’s grounds.

Those updates have made some fans wary whenever the attraction closes. However, Disney’s currently published information frames the August shutdown as the regular conversion to Haunted Mansion Holiday, with no permanent interior overhaul announced.

For now, the deadline is clear. Tokyo Disneyland guests have until August 3 to visit the mansion’s 999 ghosts, while Disneyland visitors have until August 7 before the seasonal takeover begins.

After that, both estates belong to Jack Skellington.
