Every Disney World resort has one spot that regulars claim as theirs.
At Disney’s BoardWalk, a strong case can be made for the Village Green. It is not a headliner. It does not show up in the marketing, and plenty of guests walk past it without registering what it is. But for the people who stay here repeatedly, that stretch of grass does a lot of work.
Parents let their kids run around on it while they finally sit down. Guests use it to decompress in the middle of a park day, which matters enormously at a resort where you can walk to EPCOT and catch a boat to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Families spread out a picnic. And at night, it becomes the setting for Movie Under the Stars, one of those low-key resort offerings that people remember longer than they expect to.
That space is about to be unavailable, and if you have a stay coming up in the next month, this affects you.
Disney’s BoardWalk Village Green is closing for refurbishment.

When the Village Green Closes at Disney World
The Village Green courtyard will be closed from August 10 through September 4, 2026.
That is roughly a four-week window, and it falls squarely within a busy travel period, with late-summer trips and the start of the Halloween season at Magic Kingdom.
Guests staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas will not be able to use the courtyard during that stretch.
Recreation Activities Are Being Relocated
Here is the important part for anyone worried about losing the programming entirely.
Recreation activities typically offered on the Village Green will be relocated to other locations throughout the resort during the refurbishment. That includes Movie Under the Stars, yoga, crafts, and more.
So the offerings are not being canceled. They are moving. If you had your heart set on a specific activity during your stay, check with the front desk or Guest Services when you arrive to find out where it has been relocated to.
Movie Under the Stars, in particular, is worth asking about, since the setting is a big part of what makes it work.

This Is Part of a Larger Disney World Project
The Village Green closure is not happening in isolation.
Refurbishment work will take place in select areas of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas through late 2026.
There is also a separate closure already on the calendar for next year. From January 11, 2027, through April 2027, the Luna Park Pool, the Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations will all be closed for routine maintenance.
One piece of good news on that front. The pools at both the Villas and the Inn will remain open during that period, so guests will not be without swimming options.
What Else Is Available at Disney’s BoardWalk
If your visit falls inside the Village Green closure, the rest of the resort is still very much operating.
Disney’s BoardWalk is a quarter-mile promenade in the EPCOT Resort Area, built to evoke turn-of-the-century boardwalks in coastal cities like Coney Island and Atlantic City. Operating hours run from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
For entertainment, variety-act performers appear around the BoardWalk, and Atlantic Dance Hall is there for anyone who wants to dance in the evening.

Dining ranges from multi-course dinners to on-the-go sweets, which is one of the genuine strengths of staying here.
For recreation, there are classic arcade games, and Surrey bikes built for four are available for cruising the promenade. If you were counting on the Village Green for family time, a Surrey bike ride is a reasonable substitute that keeps everyone together.
The location itself remains the biggest draw. It is a short stroll to EPCOT and a breezy boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and neither of those is affected by this work.
A Parking Note Worth Knowing
While planning a visit, keep this in mind, especially if you are coming from off-property.
Parking availability at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is limited, and Disney highly recommends that all Disney Resort hotel guests use the complimentary transportation options instead. Reminder: guests cannot use the buses at Disney Springs to get to the resort unless they have the proper documentation.
Self-parking may not be available for guests arriving in their own vehicles, and valet parking may be the only option. Guests visiting EPCOT are encouraged to use the EPCOT Guest Parking Lot.

Should You Change Your Disney World Plans
For most guests, no.
A four-week closure of one courtyard is not a reason to move a reservation, particularly when the recreation programming is being relocated rather than canceled. The dining, the promenade, the entertainment, and the walkability to two theme parks are all unchanged.
That said, if the Village Green is specifically why you book this resort, and some people do book it for exactly that reason, you may want to look at dates after September 4.
Families traveling with small kids are the group most likely to feel the difference. That open grass is genuinely useful when you need somewhere for children to burn off energy that is not a pool or a hotel room.
Dates to Keep
August 10 through September 4, 2026, for the Village Green.
January 11 through April 2027 for the Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations.
Refurbishment work is continuing in select areas of both the Inn and the Villas through late 2026.
If you have a BoardWalk stay booked during any of those windows, it is worth a quick check to see what will be available when you arrive.
