Disney World Delays EPCOT Opening During Major October Weekend

A Disney World vacation often comes down to timing. Guests plan dining reservations, Lightning Lane selections, transportation, and even where they want to stand before the parks officially open.

But anyone heading to EPCOT during one major weekend this October will need to make an adjustment.

Disney’s currently posted operating calendar shows EPCOT opening later than normal on two days during the 2026 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. Instead of welcoming regular guests at 9 a.m., EPCOT is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 23, and Sunday, October 25.

That may only sound like a one-hour difference, but an hour can matter quite a bit at Walt Disney World, especially for guests who like getting an early start.

EPCOT Will Open at 10 a.m. Twice

EPCOT’s normal opening time during this period is currently listed as 9 a.m. However, Disney’s schedule has the park opening one hour later on two specific dates.

Friday, October 23, is the day of the Disney Wine & Dine 5K. Sunday, October 25, is the day of the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. On both dates, EPCOT won’t officially open to regular guests until 10 a.m.

The change also affects Early Theme Park Entry.

Eligible Disney Resort hotel guests and guests staying at other participating hotels normally receive 30-minute early entry. With EPCOT’s opening pushed back, Early Entry is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. on both dates.
In other words, staying at a Disney Resort won’t restore that missing hour. The entire morning schedule simply shifts later.

The timing isn’t random, either.

Both changes fall directly within Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, when thousands of runners and spectators descend on Walt Disney World for the annual runDisney event.

The Wine & Dine 5K Could Affect Friday’s Opening

Friday’s delayed opening coincides with the Wine & Dine 5K.

Earlier in 2026, runDisney announced expanded registration availability for the 5K. The source article notes that having more runners in the field could mean the event needs additional time to clear the course before EPCOT can return to normal daytime operations.

Disney has not explicitly said in the provided source that the expanded registration is the official reason for EPCOT’s later opening. However, the timing makes the race a likely factor.

For guests, the more important detail is simply knowing that the park won’t begin its regular operating day at the usual time.

On Friday, October 23, EPCOT is currently scheduled to operate from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Early Entry runs from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m.

That means regular guests are currently looking at an 11-hour operating day.

Meanwhile, Magic Kingdom is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. that day, with Early Entry beginning at 8:30 a.m. A separately ticketed event is scheduled from 7 p.m. until midnight. Animal Kingdom is listed from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., while Hollywood Studios is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Guests who aren’t committed to starting their day at EPCOT could therefore have some other options if that extra morning hour matters to them.

Another Late Opening Comes Sunday

EPCOT’s second delayed opening comes just two days later.

Sunday, October 25, is Half Marathon day, and Disney’s calendar once again lists EPCOT as opening at 10 a.m.

Early Entry begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by regular park operations from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.

The Half Marathon creates a much larger footprint around Walt Disney World than an ordinary park morning, so the later opening fits with the unusual operating conditions surrounding race weekend.

Again, guests aren’t losing an entire day at EPCOT. The park is still scheduled to remain open until 9 p.m.

However, visitors who typically arrive before rope drop and try to knock out several attractions during the first part of the morning should account for the change.

A 10 a.m. opening could also alter how some guests structure their day. Someone planning breakfast before entering EPCOT suddenly has more time. Others might choose to begin somewhere else before heading to EPCOT later.

For guests staying at EPCOT-area resorts, it could simply mean a slower morning before walking or taking transportation to the park.

The key is not showing up expecting the usual 9 a.m. opening.

Extended Evening Hours Are Moving Too

The morning changes aren’t the only unusual scheduling development surrounding Wine & Dine weekend.

Extended Evening Hours are scheduled to move away from EPCOT on Monday, October 26.

Instead, Disney currently has Extended Evening Hours taking place at Animal Kingdom, a departure from the usual rotation described in the source.

That move comes immediately after the Wine & Dine Half Marathon post-race party at EPCOT on Sunday night.

The source suggests the switch may give EPCOT more breathing room after hosting the separately ticketed post-race event. Rather than following that event with Extended Evening Hours at the same park the next evening, Disney is scheduled to offer the benefit at Animal Kingdom instead.

For eligible Deluxe Resort guests and other qualifying visitors, that’s another schedule change worth knowing about before arriving.

Anyone who had been counting on an EPCOT Extended Evening Hours night during that portion of the trip should check Disney’s calendar and adjust accordingly.

Other Disney World Parks Keep Earlier Starts

The contrast becomes more noticeable when looking at the operating hours across the rest of Walt Disney World.

On Sunday, October 25, Magic Kingdom is scheduled to open at 9 a.m., with Early Entry beginning at 8:30 a.m. The park closes at 6 p.m. before a separately ticketed event scheduled from 7 p.m. until midnight.

Animal Kingdom opens even earlier, running from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., with Early Entry beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Hollywood Studios is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., with Early Entry beginning at 8:30 a.m.

That leaves EPCOT as the latest-opening of Disney World’s four theme parks on those affected mornings.

For someone with Park Hopper access, that could make starting elsewhere more appealing. Guests could also use the later EPCOT start as an opportunity for breakfast, resort time, or simply a less rushed beginning to the day.

Of course, switching parks solely because of one hour won’t make sense for everyone. Guests with dining reservations, attraction priorities, or other EPCOT-specific plans may still be better off sticking with their original schedule.

Water Park Operations Are Different Too

The posted schedule also shows Blizzard Beach operating from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on both Friday, October 23, and Sunday, October 25.

Typhoon Lagoon is listed as closed on both dates.
That gives guests another option during the weekend, although anyone visiting primarily for the theme parks will probably be more interested in how the race schedule affects EPCOT.

And that is really the biggest takeaway from Disney’s October calendar.

Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend doesn’t just affect runners.

Race weekends can influence transportation, roads, crowds, and park operations around Walt Disney World. In this case, Disney’s posted schedule shows a direct change that regular EPCOT guests need to know about before they arrive.

Double-Check the Schedule Before Your Trip

There is still plenty of time between now and late October, which means Disney could adjust its operating calendar again.

Park hours at Walt Disney World aren’t necessarily set in stone months ahead of time. Disney can extend, shorten, or otherwise adjust operating hours as dates get closer.

For now, however, anyone visiting EPCOT on Friday, October 23, or Sunday, October 25, should plan around a 10 a.m. opening rather than the usual 9 a.m. start. The source itself advises visitors to account for the later openings while continuing to check for possible schedule changes closer to their trip.

For Early Entry guests, the morning begins at 9:30 a.m. on both days.

For everyone else, EPCOT’s gates officially open at 10 a.m.

It is only a one-hour adjustment, but at Walt Disney World, one hour can change an entire touring plan. Guests visiting during Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will want to know about this one before they find themselves standing outside EPCOT much earlier than necessary.
