EPCOT is once again in transformation mode, and this time it’s the playground tucked between La Poutinerie in the Canada Pavilion and the Imagination! Pavilion that’s getting the seasonal treatment.
Walt Disney World Resort shut down the interactive play space on August 10, pulling it offline just weeks before the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival opens its doors. This isn’t the playground’s first rodeo when it comes to reinvention. Since debuting in 2025, the area has been reworked time and again to match whatever festival is currently taking over the second Central Florida Disney park, including a stint tied to the International Flower & Garden Festival earlier this year.
First Clues Point to Autumn Theme
Disney Park guests didn’t have to wait long to get a glimpse of what’s coming. Just eight days after closing, on August 18, WDWNT spotted the earliest hints of this year’s design, with fall-themed decals appearing on the pillars supporting the playground’s canopies.
The space remains hidden behind green scrim and a barricade of potted plants, but the transformation is unmistakable underneath. The support pillars have been wrapped to resemble tree trunks, complete with two-dimensional autumn leaves in shades of orange and a scattering of woodland creatures, including an owl, tucked among the branches.
Acorn Seating, another element that debuted alongside the playground in 2025, is expected to make its return for this year’s festival as well, giving families a spot to rest between attractions. Whether it’s already been installed remains unknown, since the seating area isn’t visible past the scrim.
Construction Timeline Raises Eyebrows
One detail stood out to WDWNT: the construction noise coming from the site during daytime hours. Walt Disney World Resort typically saves louder work for overnight shifts to avoid disrupting guests, so hearing it during the day suggests the team is racing against the clock to finish before the festival begins.
What’s on the Menu for 2026
The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival officially runs from August 21 through November 21. Disney Parks Blog confirmed the full lineup of Global Marketplaces this week, and in honor of the festival’s 30th anniversary, Walt Disney World Resort is bringing back or reinventing 30 fan-favorite dishes from festivals past.
