When a Star Wars fan recalls the original 1977 film A New Hope, several characters come to mind, with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), and Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) being among the most iconic.
Now, with the Star Wars franchise preparing its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations for 2027, George Lucas’ beloved classic is about to undergo more than one significant alteration.
For starters, the 1977 film is being officially dubbed in Welsh for the first time ever. Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd premieres on S4C and other streaming platforms from Christmas Day, featuring an all-new Welsh voice cast including Harry Potter and Spider-Man actor Rhys Ifans as Obi-Wan. Then, in January 2027, fans will be treated to the first issue in a new comic series.

Lucasfilm Remakes Star Wars With a Twist
Recently, Marvel announced Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a five-part limited series written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by David Marquez.
The event marks the first-ever official in-universe crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, taking the familiar events of A New Hope and placing them within Marvel’s Earth-616. This means that characters including Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan will team up with some of Marvel’s biggest heroes, such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and The Hulk, as they face Darth Vader and Doctor Doom, who have formed an alliance.
The X-Men, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Fantastic Four also appear.

“Hope Assembles marks a new chapter in the decades-long relationship between Marvel and Star Wars,” Marvel.com writes. “Marvel has published Star Wars comics as far back as 1977 – the year A New Hope hit theaters. But now, in 2027, those two worlds will finally collide on the page for the first time.”
The first issue of Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles is scheduled to arrive in January 2027, with the five-issue series continuing monthly through May.
