An ongoing incident at Disneyland Paris has led Disney to partially block access to the resort and to summon the military.
According to @DLPWorks, the resort’s southern access was closed to all guests this evening. Military personnel deployed under France’s Vigipirate security plan, police officers, cast members, and private security teams are on site, alongside bomb disposal specialists.
A loud explosion was also heard onsite.
What’s Happening at Disneyland Paris?
The mass closure follows the discovery of what appears to be several suspicious packages.
For now, Vapiano and Five Guys are closed at Disney Village – the resort’s shopping and dining district – as a precaution, as are the entrance and the Indigo car park.
Reports are flooding in from guests on social media.
“I’m safe. Can confirm I heard a loud boom at Disneyland Paris,” journalist Beatrice Peterson said. “Security is taking precautions and there are a lot of scared guests, including children. Heavy security presence here.”
Disney has since reopened the areas around Disneyland Paris and Disney Adventure World, with police remaining onsite as they continue their investigation. Reports on social media claim that the explosion was the controlled detonation of the suspicious package.
Past Incidents at Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Paris has faced serious security scares before. In January 2016, a 28-year-old man was arrested after security at what was then known as Disney’s Hotel New York discovered two handguns and ammunition in his luggage. Investigators later said they had found no evidence linking him to a potential terrorist attack.
Later that year, the Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy station serving Disneyland Paris was evacuated after three suspicious packages were reported. Around 1,500 travelers were cleared from the area while bomb disposal teams responded. The objects, including an abandoned backpack, were ultimately destroyed without incident, and the station later returned to normal operations.
Another alarm came in August 2018, when an envelope containing white powder was found inside a Disneyland Paris restaurant. Staff and guests were evacuated, and a security perimeter was established amid fears the substance could be anthrax. Specialist firefighters tested it onsite and determined that the powder was actually cocaine.
In March 2019, a mechanical fault at Disney Village triggered a much larger panic after noises were mistaken for gunfire or explosions. Crowds fled, and both theme parks were evacuated as a precaution. French authorities later confirmed there was no security threat, although several people suffered minor injuries during the rush.
Disneyland Paris has yet to officially comment on the latest incident.
