After 9 Years, Disney Listens to EPCOT Fans and Confirms Theme Park Change

EPCOT festivals have become such a major part of the park that it can sometimes feel like one ends just as another begins.

From food booths and live entertainment to scavenger hunts, specialty merchandise, and seasonal decorations, these events have helped shape the modern EPCOT experience. But one festival has always been a little different.

It simply hasn’t lasted very long.

That is finally changing in 2027, and it’s a move EPCOT fans have been asking Disney to make for years.

Disney has confirmed that the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will receive an extra week in 2027, extending one of the park’s shortest—and arguably most unique—festivals.

Disney Extends EPCOT International Festival of the Arts

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts debuted in 2017, introducing a different kind of seasonal event to Walt Disney World.

Instead of putting nearly all the attention on food or flowers, Festival of the Arts combines visual art, performing arts, and culinary creations throughout EPCOT.

Guests can explore food studios around World Showcase, watch chalk artists work along the park’s walkways, step inside photo opportunities inspired by famous artwork, participate in a paint-by-number mural, and take part in a Figment scavenger hunt. Special festival merchandise also returns as part of the event.

The problem has always been its relatively short run.

Unlike some EPCOT festivals that stretch across multiple months, Festival of the Arts has traditionally occupied a much smaller portion of the calendar. That gives guests fewer opportunities to experience it, particularly families who cannot easily schedule a Walt Disney World vacation during the winter.

After nine years, Disney is finally giving fans more time.

The 2027 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will run from January 15 through March 1, 2027. That represents an additional week for the festival compared to its previous schedule.

It may only be seven additional days, but for a festival with such a limited window, that is a meaningful change.

EPCOT Fans Have Wanted More Time

There is a reason extending Festival of the Arts makes sense.

EPCOT has four major festivals spread throughout the year: the International Festival of the Arts, International Flower & Garden Festival, International Food & Wine Festival, and International Festival of the Holidays.

Each brings a noticeably different atmosphere to the park through entertainment, food, activities, and seasonal offerings.

Festival of the Arts has long stood out because of just how quickly it comes and goes.

Adding another week gives annual passholders and vacationers another opportunity to visit without fundamentally changing what makes the event special. Disney isn’t turning it into a festival that lasts for months. Instead, the company is giving guests a little more breathing room.

There is also another returning experience for 2027.

Disney has confirmed that the popular Lorcana Collection Quest will return during the festival.

That means guests who enjoyed the activity previously will have another opportunity to participate, while newcomers will have more dates available to experience the festival as a whole.

Another EPCOT Festival Follows Soon After

The extended schedule also creates an interesting transition into EPCOT’s spring season.

Once Festival of the Arts concludes on March 1, guests won’t have to wait long for the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.

Disney has confirmed that Flower & Garden will run from March 10 through May 31, 2027. The spring festival will once again bring topiaries, seasonal food, live entertainment, and family-friendly experiences throughout EPCOT.

That leaves only eight full days between the two festivals.

For Disney, keeping EPCOT’s festival calendar packed makes plenty of sense. These events encourage repeat visits by giving guests something different to experience throughout the year.

But the Festival of the Arts extension may be particularly welcome.

Since its 2017 debut, guests have had to work with a relatively narrow window if they wanted to experience the event. Nine years later, Disney is finally making that window a little larger.

Seven extra days might not sound like a dramatic overhaul to EPCOT, but sometimes the best park changes don’t need to be.

For fans who have spent years wishing Festival of the Arts would stick around just a little longer, Disney finally listened.
