Since Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park was released in theaters in 1993, the franchise has become one of Universal Pictures’ biggest properties.
Collectively, the Jurassic movies have generated billions at the global box office, while the franchise has expanded beyond theaters into animated series such as Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020–2022) and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024–2025) and games including the Jurassic World Evolution series. Of course, there are also Universal Studios theme park attractions like Jurassic Park River Adventure, Jurassic World: The Ride, and VelociCoaster.
Jurassic World Has Replaced Jurassic Park
When it comes to the films, however, the franchise now effectively exists in two forms: Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.
Although Jurassic World Dominion (2022) brought characters from both trilogies together — including Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Alan Grant (Sam Neill) from the original Jurassic Park trilogy, alongside Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) from the Jurassic World saga — the rebranding that came in 2015 with the first Jurassic World has become the official banner.
And that rebranding has been hugely successful. Jurassic World (2015) earned $1.67 billion worldwide, followed by $1.31 billion for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and $1 billion for Jurassic World Dominion. Last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) fell short of those figures but still grossed an impressive $869.1 million worldwide despite negative reviews.
The World series isn’t finished, either. A sequel to Rebirth is in development, with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali reportedly expected to return. However, director Gareth Edwards, who helmed last year’s film, recently exited the project over creative differences, and Universal is now searching for a replacement.

For now, there are no plans to bring Jurassic Park movies back to the big screen. For that original branch/branding, the future currently exists outside theaters only.
The only major upcoming project is Jurassic Park: Survival, a single-player action-adventure game from Saber Interactive. Set one day after the 1993 movie, it follows InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, performed in motion capture by Payal Mistry, after she’s stranded on Isla Nublar.
The first-person game combines stealth, action, exploration, and survival as players encounter reactive dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Dilophosaurus and explore locations including the Visitor Center and other iconic areas from the original film.
Its cinematic reveal trailer debuted in December 2023, but a proper update didn’t arrive until August 2025, when Saber released a five-minute behind-the-scenes featurette containing pre-alpha footage. Recently, however, Saber confirmed that the project is still in active development.
“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making,” the synopsis for the game reads.
“Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”
There’s no release date, but the game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Jurassic World 5 also doesn’t have a confirmed release date.
