Disney Cruise Line Cast Member Airlifted From Ship After Suffering Serious Injury

A sailing aboard the Disney Wonder took an unexpected turn when a medical emergency forced a helicopter evacuation of a Disney Cruise Line cast member while the ship was still at sea.

The Emergency Rescue on the Disney Wonder

According to Chek News, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron responded to the Disney Wonder in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 8. Two rescue aircraft, a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher airplane, were dispatched to the ship’s location off the Northern tip of Vancouver Island.

Chek News shared a video showing the CH-149 Cormorant helicopter hovering above the ship’s deck as two emergency technicians boarded the Disney Wonder, then lifted the patient into the helicopter for evacuation. The CC-295 Kingfisher airplane worked alongside the ship’s captain to coordinate the rescue effort ahead of the helicopter’s arrival.

Cruise Hive later confirmed that the person evacuated was a Disney Cruise Line cast member rather than a guest. However, no outlet has disclosed the specific nature of the medical emergency. The Disney cast member was subsequently taken to a hospital in Canada for treatment.

“Disney Wonder, from Rescue 915, thanks for your help, you can resume your speed,” the rescue team reportedly radioed after completing the evacuation. The Disney Wonder crew replied, “Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated.”

Disney Cruise Line Sailing Continued as Scheduled

The emergency took place just one day after the Disney Wonder departed on a seven-day sailing between Vancouver, Canada, and Alaska. Despite the mid-voyage evacuation, the rest of the trip proceeded without further disruption, and the itinerary remained intact. The ship’s next scheduled sailing also departed on time on Monday, September 14.
