An abandoned Disney location has suddenly found a new purpose, and a familiar Pixar character is now at the center of it.

For years, the space had become a reminder of what had been there. Its original purpose faded, references to its former identity disappeared, and guests had little reason to pay attention.

Now, Disney has brought the location back into use with a Toy Story experience.

The timing makes the addition interesting. Disney is working through several refurbishment projects, forcing the resort to rethink where certain experiences can operate.

A Forgotten Location Suddenly Has a New Star

The change is happening at Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris, where guests can now meet Sheriff Woody from Toy Story. Disney has opened the character experience inside the former Barrel of Monkeys shop in Worlds of Pixar. While the location originally operated as a retail space, it hasn’t functioned normally as a store in years.

Even before Woody arrived, Disney had removed some of the location’s old identity. Signage and other references identifying Barrel of Monkeys as a shop disappeared some time ago.

Instead of merchandise filling the location, guests can now step inside for a character encounter. Disneyland Paris says visitors may meet Woody “or one of his friends” there, meaning the sheriff may not appear every time.

It’s a simple change, but it gives Disney a way to bring life back to an unused area while adding another Toy Story presence inside Worlds of Pixar.

There May Be More Behind the Sudden Move

Disney has not confirmed whether the Barrel of Monkeys transformation will become permanent.

For now, there is an important reason the resort needed another character location.

The normal Pixar meet-and-greet area is unavailable due to refurbishment work on Crush’s Coaster. That project has disrupted the usual setup, with Disney now using Barrel of Monkeys as another location for character interactions.

Barrel of Monkeys provided an obvious solution. The former shop was rarely used, and its retail branding had already disappeared.

Guests hoping to meet Woody or another character should check the Disneyland Paris app. Disney posts available meet-and-greet times there.

The bigger question is what happens once the refurbishment ends.

Disney could return the Pixar character experience to its previous location. It could also decide that the former shop works well enough to keep characters there permanently.

For now, Disney hasn’t announced that decision.

The Resort Is Already in the Middle of a Bigger Transformation

The Woody meet-and-greet isn’t happening in isolation.

Disneyland Paris is moving through a significant period of refurbishment and development, particularly around Disney Adventure World. Existing attractions are receiving attention while the park continues evolving with new experiences.

Against that backdrop, the Barrel of Monkeys change may seem small. Still, it shows how Disney can give older spaces new purposes while larger projects continue.
