Amazon MGM Studios will soon announce the next actor to play 007, following Daniel Craig’s five-film run, which included Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).
Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune), the new Bond film will reboot the series; however, there’s no release date yet and no other actors have been announced.
Meanwhile, another upcoming James Bond reboot has confirmed three actors.
James Bond Casts Three Actors
Young Bond: SilverFin Part 1 is the upcoming audio drama adaptation of Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel. The project was announced earlier this year and later revealed that Isaac Rouse (The Crown Season 6) would be voicing the young Bond during his time at Eton, with Charlotte McBurney voicing Wilder Lawless, in a story set long before the events of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale.
Now, per The James Bond Dossier, SilverFin author Charlie Higson himself has been cast as Bond’s mentor and father figure Michael Merriot.
“It’s a lot of fun, revisiting the book over twenty years after I first wrote it and reading the scripts thinking, oh, this is good,” Higson said, adding, “And it’s great to be involved in this way, playing a character who develops over the series. Bond is turning up at school as an orphan, and Merriot becomes an alternative father figure who takes an interest in his life.”
For the initial casting earlier this year, Big Finish Productions shared a video featuring actors Rouse and McBurney, along with several key creatives from Big Finish and Ian Fleming Publications. Watch it below:
Charlie Higson’s original 2005 book Young Bond: SilverFin was followed by the sequels Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold, and By Royal Command, all of which were written by the author. The book series later continued under author Steve Cole with Shoot to Kill, Heads You Die, Strike Lightning, and Red Nemesis. Now, Higson has returned to Bond in print with King Zero, an adult 007 novel that arrives this September.
“On his first day at his new school, James Bond is about to make his very first enemy, and is soon plunged into a deadly adventure that will take him from the playing fields of Eton to the murky waters of Loch Silverfin…,” the synopsis for the upcoming audio drama SilverFin states, adding, “A monstrous secret lurks beneath its icy surface… a secret that threatens to plunge the world into a new era of warfare.”
SilverFin consists of 16 half-hour episodes, with a total runtime of approximately eight hours, and will be released as two volumes in October through Big Finish and the Ian Fleming Shop. Each volume is now available for pre-order.
Who Is the Next James Bond?
Meanwhile, speculation about who the next Bond actor in cinema will be continues, with Scottish actor Jack Lowden (Calibre) emerging as a top contender.
Amazon MGM has not announced who the new Bond actor is for its next film, however, one of the film’s producers, Amy Pascal, recently told Deadline that “the end of the year is a good bet.”
Recently, the film’s writer Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) strongly suggested the actor had already been cast. During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today program (via The Independent), when asked whether he’d been writing the film with the chosen actor in mind, he said, “It’s a bit of both,” adding, “It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor.”
