Disney Tips Your Guide To A Great Disney Vacation
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has never been an easy park for young kids, and that is not a new complaint.
The headliners are thrill rides. Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Smugglers Run. Most of them carry height requirements, and the ones that do not still skew older in tone.
So when Disney added a Disney Jr. meet-and-greet area this summer, it filled a real gap. Small kids finally had a reason to be there: it was built specifically for them, with characters they actually watch at home rather than those their parents grew up with.
That area is now gone.
The Disney Jr. mural along Commissary Lane has been removed, and with it, the meet-and-greet that hosted Sofia from Sofia the First and Bitsy from SuperKitties.
What Was Found
The area was empty when observed on Friday, September 18.
The previous mural, a bright pink, purple, and orange design that debuted in May, has been painted over in blue.
Remnants of the bubble design are still visible on the beige wall, along with indents where a previous sign was mounted.
The location sits along Commissary Lane near ABC Commissary, next to Red Carpet Dreams, which is another meet and greet experience.
Disney has not announced a replacement.
What Was There
The setup debuted in May and ran through the summer.
Sofia and Bitsy alternated throughout the day, switching out at different times so guests could meet either character depending on when they arrived.
That rotation was a smart use of a small footprint. One location, two characters, two different audiences, and a reason to come back later in the day if you missed the one you wanted.
Who These Characters Are
For anyone without a preschooler at home, some context on why this mattered.
Sofia comes from Sofia the First, a 3D computer-animated series that ran on Disney Jr. from January 11, 2013 through September 8, 2018. The pilot debuted as a one-hour special on Disney Channel in November 2012.
The premise is that Sofia, voiced by Ariel Winter, is a girl from a commoner background who becomes royalty when her mother marries King Roland II.
The show went off the air in December 2018, then returned in reruns in November 2020.
Bitsy is one of the protagonists of SuperKitties, a current Disney Jr. animated series. She is the smallest and newest member of the team, wears super speed boots, and records each case on her vlog tablet at the end of every episode.
That pairing covered two audiences at once. Sofia reaches kids who found the show through streaming and reruns, while Bitsy reaches kids watching Disney Jr. right now.
Why This Removal Stings
Meet-and-greets come and go constantly at Disney parks. Most removals are routine.
This one lands differently because of where it was.
Hollywood Studios has a genuine shortage of things aimed at guests under about six. Disney Junior Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! is there. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway works for most ages. Toy Story Land helps. Beyond that, a family with a four-year-old spends a lot of the day working around height requirements.
A dedicated Disney Jr. character location addressed that directly, focusing on characters kids are actively watching rather than legacy characters they recognize from merchandise.
Removing it takes the park back to where it was in the spring.

The Timing Question
There is a reasonable explanation available, and it is worth considering before assuming the worst.
The Magic of Disney Animation opened at the Walt Disney Studios Lot this month, bringing Off the Page character meets, the Drawn to Wonderland play area for young children, and an Olaf drawing academy.
That is a substantial addition of family-friendly capacity in the same park.
It is possible Disney consolidated character operations rather than running a separate Disney Jr. location alongside a brand-new indoor attraction with its own meet-and-greets.
That is speculation. Disney has not said anything. But the timing is close enough that it is worth noting rather than treating this purely as a subtraction. Or simply it could be because Cool Kid Summer is over at Walt Disney World.
What Parents Should Know Now
If you were planning around this location, here is the current state of things.
The Commissary Lane spot is empty and repainted. There is no indication of when or whether anything returns.
Red Carpet Dreams remains next door, hosting its own meet and greets.
Disney Junior Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! continues to operate.
And the Magic of Disney Animation now offers character encounters across six animation departments, plus an indoor play space built specifically for younger children.
So the park is not without options for small kids. The options just moved.
What to Watch For
The wall is blue and blank, which is not typically how Disney leaves a guest-facing space long term.
A repainted wall with visible sign mounting points usually means something else is coming, though there is no announcement and no timeline.
For now, Sofia and Bitsy are no longer meeting guests at Hollywood Studios, and a summer addition that worked well for young families lasted about four months.
