Disney World has removed Stitch from a very popular location, and weeks later, there is still no clear answer about when — or even exactly how he will return.

For fans of the mischievous blue alien, his absence has become increasingly noticeable. What initially looked like a temporary change has now stretched from the middle of summer into September, with Disney offering very little information about what comes next.

There are signs that his disappearance isn’t permanent. In fact, many reports suggest Disney intends to bring him back eventually. But with no announced return date and the missing Disney favorite recently spotted somewhere completely different, there are still plenty of questions.

Here’s everything we know about Stitch’s unexpected disappearance and when Disney World guests could finally see him back where he belongs.

One of Disney World’s Most Recognizable Characters

Stitch has developed an enormous following since Disney released Lilo & Stitch (2002), and his popularity has only grown over the years.

That popularity is easy to see around Walt Disney World. Stitch merchandise remains common throughout the resort, while the character himself continues to make appearances for guests.

Disney has also leaned heavily into Stitch following the release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025), introducing new merchandise and finding more ways to keep the character in front of fans.

That’s part of what makes his disappearance from one familiar Disney World location so noticeable.

For years, guests arriving at Disney Springs could spot a giant Stitch perched above the entrance to World of Disney. The character wasn’t simply a decoration, either. He occasionally surprised unsuspecting guests by spitting water down toward the walkway.

But that familiar sight suddenly disappeared this summer.

Stitch Has Been Missing For Months Now

Back in July 2026, Disney removed the large Stitch figure from its longtime position above the entrance to World of Disney at Disney Springs.

The figure is reportedly undergoing refurbishment and is expected to return to its familiar location above the store eventually.

However, we’re now in September, and Stitch still hasn’t returned.

That means what might have initially seemed like a relatively quick refurbishment has turned into an absence lasting multiple months.

Disney hasn’t announced a specific reopening date for the experience or provided a detailed timeline explaining when Stitch will be reinstalled. That leaves guests with little more than the expectation that his absence is temporary.

And recently, fans received an unusual glimpse at where Stitch has been spending his time.

Stitch Has Finally Been Spotted Again

Aerial photographer Bioreconstruct recently captured an image showing the Stitch figure away from World of Disney.

Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t provide many clues about his condition.

The image only shows the back of the massive Stitch figure. From that angle, he appears to be still sitting away from his normal location, with nothing obvious indicating that he’s about to make an immediate return to Disney Springs.

Of course, there’s only so much anyone can determine from a single aerial photograph.

Refurbishment work could be happening in areas that aren’t visible, and Disney could move quickly once Stitch is ready to return. Still, given that he has already been gone for roughly two months, his continued absence raises questions about the timeline.

Could Stitch Return Before Christmas?

There have been reports suggesting Stitch will return to World of Disney in time for the 2026 holiday season.

If those reports prove accurate, November would seem like a reasonable window for his return. Walt Disney World begins rolling out its Christmas celebrations in November, making that an obvious time to have one of Disney Springs’ most recognizable figures back in place.

For now, though, that remains speculation.

Disney has not announced a November return date or publicly set a specific deadline for the refurbishment. Until the company provides more information or Stitch physically reappears above World of Disney, there’s no guarantee about exactly when guests will see him again.

Thankfully, Stitch hasn’t completely disappeared from Walt Disney World.

Where Can Guests Still Find Stitch?

Fans hoping to see Stitch during an upcoming vacation still have other options.

Stitch continues to meet guests in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, giving fans a chance to see the character even while his Disney Springs counterpart remains missing.

Guests can also find plenty of Stitch at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The character has a particularly strong presence there because of the tropical setting and his connection to Lilo & Stitch (2002).

So while one of Disney World’s most recognizable versions of Stitch is currently unavailable, the character himself remains very much part of the resort.

No Return Date in Sight

At this point, the biggest mystery isn’t whether Disney still cares about Stitch. His continued popularity makes that answer pretty obvious.

Instead, we’re waiting to see when the massive figure will finally reclaim his familiar spot above World of Disney.

Disney reportedly removed Stitch for refurbishment, and current expectations point toward a return around the holiday season. However, without an official date, fans shouldn’t count on a particular week or even month just yet.

For now, Stitch remains away from World of Disney, months after his July removal. His recent sighting confirms that the figure is still around, but it doesn’t tell us how close Disney is to reinstalling him.
