There are plenty of places around Walt Disney World where guests expect to encounter mice.

One recent EPCOT encounter was very different.

Guests visiting CommuniCore Hall suddenly found themselves watching a real mouse race through an area where Mickey Mouse and Goofy were meeting visitors. The unexpected moment quickly turned what should have been a fairly normal character interaction into a scene that had guests screaming, laughing, and pulling out their phones.

And because this happened at Disney World, people didn’t take long to give the tiny visitor a familiar Disney identity.

Social media users began joking that Remy had apparently left the France pavilion and decided to explore another part of EPCOT.

An Unexpected Visitor Shows Up at EPCOT

The unusual encounter happened inside CommuniCore Hall, which sits in the World Celebration neighborhood of EPCOT.

Video shared on social media shows a small mouse moving quickly across the floor while guests react around it. This wasn’t something happening away from the crowds or hidden in a backstage area, either.

Mickey and Goofy were right there.

Both characters could be seen in the background as the mouse made its unexpected appearance. Mickey appeared to react with his hand over his mouth, while Goofy seemed to be trying to avoid stepping on the tiny animal as it moved through the area. Guests could also be heard shrieking while the mouse raced through the crowd.

For anyone watching without context, the entire situation almost looks like an intentionally planned Disney comedy bit.

Of course, there is no indication that this particular guest was supposed to be part of the meet-and-greet.

The fact that it happened around Mickey Mouse only made the moment even funnier.

Disney’s most famous character is a mouse, after all. Seeing the costumed Disney icon standing nearby while an actual mouse scurries across the floor creates the kind of bizarre visual that would be difficult to plan intentionally.

Translated from Spanish, the post essentially jokes that the travelers encountered Remy himself at EPCOT. The post also tagged @nicole_withh_an_e_ while thanking them for the video and included hashtags referencing Disney, EPCOT, Disney World, and Ratatouille (2007).

The Remy jokes make plenty of sense considering where this happened.

EPCOT is already home to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the attraction in the France pavilion that shrinks guests down to the size of Remy as they race through Gusteau’s restaurant.

In this case, nobody needed 3D glasses or a trackless ride vehicle to get a close encounter with a small rodent.

Commenters quickly began comparing the real mouse to Remy, specifically because Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is located elsewhere in EPCOT.

The Instagram post also attracted plenty of attention. At the time captured in the original post, it showed more than 12,600 likes and hundreds of comments.

It’s easy to understand why.

Disney World produces thousands of character interactions every day. Guests routinely meet Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, princesses, Pixar characters, and others throughout the resort.

A real mouse unexpectedly joining Mickey and Goofy?

That’s a little harder to recreate.

Had the animal appeared somewhere else around EPCOT, the video probably still would have received attention. Wildlife sightings aren’t exactly unheard of around Walt Disney World. The resort covers a massive amount of property in Central Florida, and guests can encounter everything from squirrels and rabbits to birds, lizards, and other animals during a vacation.

But the setting makes this particular encounter stand apart.

This mouse didn’t just appear at Disney World. It showed up while Mickey Mouse himself was nearby.

A Disney World vacation is carefully planned for many families. Guests make hotel reservations, purchase park tickets, decide which attractions they want to experience, make dining plans, and sometimes map out entire days before arriving.

Still, the circumstances surrounding this particular sighting turned it into something considerably more amusing than an ordinary wildlife video.

It happened at EPCOT.

Goofy was there.

And EPCOT happens to have an entire attraction built around Remy.

That’s almost too perfect.
