Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade is supposed to be one of those classic Disney experiences where guests can line Main Street, U.S.A. and watch some of their favorite characters pass by aboard massive, colorful floats.
Lately, however, getting the full parade experience hasn’t always been guaranteed.
Festival of Fantasy has reportedly endured a rough stretch involving cancellations, missing floats, altered performances, and other unexpected problems. Now, another breakdown has forced Disney Cast Members to make an adjustment in the middle of the parade itself.

The show continued, but one familiar part of the parade had to be cut on the fly.
Another Festival of Fantasy Breakdown
Festival of Fantasy currently runs at Magic Kingdom at 2 p.m., giving guests another major entertainment option beyond the park’s rides and attractions. Disney also offers the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade at 11:05 a.m., although entertainment schedules can change.
Festival of Fantasy is particularly recognizable for its elaborate floats and large collection of Disney characters.
One section features Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty (1959), who travel along the parade route just ahead of the massive Maleficent dragon.
During a recent performance, however, Merryweather didn’t make it through the parade as planned.
Her rolling base became stuck on the trolley tracks along Main Street, U.S.A., bringing the parade to a temporary stop.
That left Cast Members with a decision to make while guests waited along the route.
Instead of ending the parade entirely, they quickly adjusted the performance.
Disney Cuts Part of the Parade
Cast Members surrounded Merryweather and draped a black sheet around her waist as they worked to address the problem.
After a brief adjustment, Merryweather stepped off the rolling base. She then continued through the parade on foot behind the other fairies, allowing the performance to move forward rather than remain stopped.
Her disabled rolling base was also covered with a black sheet before Cast Members eventually towed it down Main Street.
It was a relatively quick solution to a problem that could have created a much larger interruption.
Still, guests watching that particular performance didn’t receive Festival of Fantasy exactly as Disney normally presents it. One piece of the parade effectively disappeared mid-performance, with Merryweather forced to finish the route differently than intended.
And the incident becomes more notable when looking at what has reportedly been happening with the parade recently.

Problems Have Been Piling Up
This wasn’t necessarily an isolated hiccup.
Festival of Fantasy has reportedly experienced several unexpected issues over the past few weeks. Those problems have included missing parade floats and characters having to walk the route instead of appearing as they normally would.
A social media post included in the original report described the parade as having a “rough month,” citing cancellations and missing floats. The poster claimed they had not seen a performance during the past month that wasn’t either canceled or significantly altered.
That doesn’t mean every scheduled Festival of Fantasy performance has officially experienced a problem. However, it does point to a frustrating stretch for an entertainment offering that guests may specifically plan their afternoon around.
Unlike an attraction breakdown, a parade cancellation or alteration can be particularly difficult to work around.
If an attraction temporarily closes in the morning, guests may have another opportunity to ride later. Festival of Fantasy currently has a scheduled 2 p.m. performance, meaning guests who miss it because of a cancellation don’t necessarily have another showing waiting a few hours later.
Even when the parade does operate, missing floats or altered character appearances can create a noticeably different experience.
The Show Still Goes On
There was at least one positive part of the latest incident: Disney managed to keep Festival of Fantasy moving.
Cast Members didn’t simply cancel the remainder of the parade when Merryweather became stuck. They adjusted her appearance, removed her from the malfunctioning base, and allowed her to continue on foot.
For many guests farther along the route, the interruption may have looked considerably different from what people near the initial breakdown witnessed.
It’s also an example of how quickly Cast Members sometimes have to react when live entertainment doesn’t go according to plan.
Festival of Fantasy includes moving floats, performers, characters, and other components traveling through an active theme park. When one part develops a problem, Disney has to determine whether the show can safely continue and what needs to change.
This time, that meant cutting Merryweather’s normal rolling appearance while preserving the rest of the performance.

A Rough Stretch for a Magic Kingdom Favorite
Festival of Fantasy remains part of Magic Kingdom’s current entertainment lineup, and the latest incident doesn’t mean Disney has announced any permanent cuts to the parade.
Instead, the bigger concern is the pattern of disruptions reported over the last several weeks.
Guests have reportedly encountered cancellations, missing floats, characters walking instead of riding, and now a rolling character base becoming stuck directly on Main Street.
For a parade built around elaborate floats and carefully coordinated performances, those changes can make a big difference.
The latest breakdown at least came with a quick recovery. Merryweather got back on her feet, Cast Members removed the malfunctioning equipment, and Festival of Fantasy continued down the route.
But after a month reportedly filled with altered and canceled performances, guests hoping to see the complete Festival of Fantasy Parade may want to keep a close eye on Magic Kingdom’s entertainment schedule.
At this point, even when the parade begins, there’s always a chance the show Disney planned isn’t exactly the one guests ultimately get.
