Florida’s summer downpours are a given at Walt Disney World Resort, but one recent deluge left enough standing water in the China World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT for a few kids to turn it into a playground. The footage has parents arguing over whether puddle-splashing at the Central Florida Disney parks is harmless fun or a health risk.

“Guys, look at the new pool in the China Pavilion,” the Central Florida Disney Park guest said in the clip, before swinging the camera toward several children splashing around in the water. “If you’re not here all the time, that’s never full.”

Commenters Split

Reaction was quick and divided. Some viewers were horrified that parents would let their kids play in rainwater.

“Floridian here….you know what’s in that water?? 🤮🤮,” @kelly_laird commented.

“People are so free with their children like ‘I’ll deal with MRSA later…’,” @jusplayin32 replied.

Others thought the criticism was overblown and that the kids were simply making the most of a surprise downpour.

“Has anyone in the comments ever played in a puddle or the rain as a child?” @chelseasop wrote.

“You never played in a puddle or ditches filled with water? Who cares they are kids let them play,” @ineed2poo10 agreed. “They will be fine.”

How Disney Handles Flooding

When heavy rain floods Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, cast members work fast to clear storm drains and direct water into the extensive drainage system running beneath the parks. Walt Disney World Resort guests are encouraged to steer clear of deeply flooded areas and to ask a cast member for an alternate route to their next attraction, restaurant, or experience.
