Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin recently welcomed guests back to Magic Kingdom following one of the biggest refurbishments in the attraction’s history. However, Disney apparently isn’t finished working on the Tomorrowland favorite.

Just six months after the attraction reopened with major improvements, Walt Disney Imagineering has filed new construction paperwork that suggests additional work is on the way.

The development raises questions about what Disney could be planning for the recently upgraded attraction and whether guests might face another temporary closure.

While Disney hasn’t announced any additional downtime, the latest filing suggests that the company’s work on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin may not be over.

Disney Files New Construction Permit for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

New construction paperwork reveals Walt Disney Imagineering has submitted another permit for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom.

The filing lists the attraction’s address as 1305 Monorail Way and describes the work as “General Construction.”

Disney has hired Icarus Exhibits, Inc. for the project, with the permit expiring in one year.

Although the paperwork doesn’t specify the planned changes, the contractor’s involvement offers a clue.

Icarus Exhibits specializes in themed environments and previously installed set elements during the attraction’s recent overhaul.

That connection suggests Disney could be planning additional improvements to the ride’s themed environments rather than routine maintenance.

However, the permit doesn’t identify specific modifications, and Disney hasn’t announced a construction timeline.

The timing is interesting considering the attraction’s recent transformation.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Just Reopened

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopened on April 8, 2026, following an eight-month refurbishment that began in August 2025.

The closure modernized the Magic Kingdom attraction, which debuted in 1998.

While retaining its storyline involving Buzz Lightyear and Emperor Zurg, Disney introduced several interactive improvements.

One major change replaced the original fixed blasters with handheld versions, allowing guests to aim more freely without relying entirely on vehicle rotation.

Disney also introduced targets that respond with lighting effects when hit.

Updated Star Cruiser vehicles feature displays that track scores, while the expanded scoring system allows guests to exceed the previous 999,999-point maximum.

Another addition was Buddy, a friendly robot who prepares guests for their mission and lets them practice using their blasters before facing Zurg.

Disney also refreshed scenes and improved visual effects throughout the attraction. These upgrades modernized the Tomorrowland favorite while preserving its familiar gameplay.

Now, another construction permit has surfaced just months after the overhaul.

Could Another Temporary Closure Be Coming to Magic Kingdom?

The latest permit raises an important question for Magic Kingdom guests: Could Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin close again?

Another temporary shutdown remains possible, but Disney hasn’t announced a refurbishment schedule or confirmed whether the work would require closing the attraction.

Depending on the project’s scope, Imagineering could complete certain adjustments overnight while Magic Kingdom is closed.

However, extensive modifications to themed sets or ride environments might require temporary suspension of operations.

That possibility is worth considering because Icarus Exhibits previously worked inside the attraction during its lengthy refurbishment.

If Disney plans to install or replace additional themed components, crews might need access to areas that aren’t practical to work on while guests are riding.

Still, a construction permit doesn’t guarantee another closure.

Disney regularly files permits for everything from minor improvements to major renovations. This paperwork confirms planned work but doesn’t establish how disruptive it might be.

Until Disney shares more information, another lengthy closure remains uncertain.

Major Changes Continue Across Magic Kingdom

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin isn’t the only Magic Kingdom attraction receiving attention as Disney continues transforming the park.

In Tomorrowland, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress remains closed for a major update, with its reopening expected in 2027. The project will introduce changes to the longtime attraction while preserving its familiar rotating theater experience.

Meanwhile, Frontierland is undergoing an even bigger transformation.

Disney permanently closed the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat in 2025 to make room for Piston Peak National Park, a new Cars-themed expansion.

Construction is also moving forward on the highly anticipated Villains Land, which will introduce two major attractions, dining, and shopping experiences inspired by Disney’s most recognizable villains.

These projects represent some of the biggest changes Magic Kingdom has experienced in decades.

With so much construction underway, the latest Buzz Lightyear permit adds another project to Disney’s growing list of improvements.

What’s Next for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin?

For an attraction that spent much of the past year undergoing extensive improvements, another construction filing is certainly worth watching.

Disney invested considerable effort into updating Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, introducing modern technology while preserving the competitive experience guests have enjoyed for decades.

The newest permit suggests Imagineering still has additional work planned, although the exact purpose remains unclear.

Whether that means minor adjustments, further themed enhancements, or another temporary interruption remains to be seen.

For now, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin continues to welcome guests at Magic Kingdom, and Disney has not confirmed any further closures.

However, with new construction paperwork officially filed, the recently transformed Tomorrowland attraction could have another round of improvements ahead.
