After Disneyland guests were forced to stay out of the Resort area as bomb squads and police secured the area, new details have been released about two suspicious packages that were treated as a serious threat.

Two Suspicious Packages Turn Disneyland Resort Into Locked-Down Danger Zone

Two suspicious bags discovered outside Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, triggered a Disneyland bomb squad response, temporarily closed a major guest access area, and prompted a police investigation into whether someone deliberately staged the packages to appear dangerous.

The incident unfolded Monday night, October 12, 2026, near the Harbor Boulevard shuttle area. Authorities ultimately discovered no explosives, but investigators are searching for a man suspected of leaving the bags behind. Guests were redirected away from the eastern entrance while officers secured the area.

Disneyland Bomb Squad Responds After Suspicious Packages Discovered

According to the Los Angeles Times, Disneyland security contacted the Anaheim Police Department at approximately 9:50 p.m. after employees discovered two unattended bags near a roundabout outside the resort’s main entrance.

One satchel-style bag rested on a dolly with exposed wires protruding from it. Investigators also discovered marbles inside the bag, while a second nylon bag had been sealed with duct tape and contained objects with sharp edges.

Additional reporting identified some of those objects as Disney-themed crowns and other miscellaneous metal accessories. Although the items were ultimately harmless, their unusual appearance prompted authorities to treat the situation as a potential security threat.

Officers requested assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad, which examined the packages and determined shortly before midnight that neither contained explosives.

The discovery came as Disneyland was already managing changes to its eastern security entrance, making the affected pedestrian corridor particularly important to visitors navigating the resort.

Police Investigate Whether Disneyland Packages Were Deliberately Staged

The investigation did not end when bomb technicians cleared the suspicious bags.

Anaheim police Sgt. Eric Anderson told the Los Angeles Times that investigators believe someone intentionally left the packages to look suspicious. Authorities are attempting to identify the person responsible, although a motive has not been established.

Reports from KTLA, republished by AOL, indicate that investigators are searching for a man connected to the incident. Surveillance footage and witness accounts reportedly provided information about the suspected individual.

As of the latest reporting, police had not publicly released his identity or photographs.

That distinction matters. Although investigators suspect deliberate staging, authorities have not established that the incident was an organized hoax, identified a perpetrator publicly, or announced criminal charges.

The investigation also follows a separate Disneyland police response involving false shooting reports earlier in 2026. There is no verified evidence connecting the two incidents.

Disneyland Entrance Closure Forces Guests to Change Routes

The suspicious packages created an immediate logistical problem for guests attempting to leave Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the bags were discovered near the shuttle drop-off area adjoining the Esplanade, the central pedestrian plaza connecting the resort’s two theme parks.

Police restricted access to the affected eastern corridor, forcing visitors to use alternative exits while bomb technicians investigated.

The disruption particularly affected guests traveling toward Harbor Boulevard hotels and the Toy Story Parking Area, which normally relies on shuttle transportation serving the resort’s eastern entrance.

We previously reported changes to Disneyland’s Toy Story shuttle operations as Disney prepares to reconfigure its transportation infrastructure.

The October 12 security response was unrelated to that construction project, but it demonstrated how quickly an unexpected closure can complicate movement through an important arrival and departure corridor.

Importantly, the incident did not constitute a confirmed evacuation of both theme parks. The reported restrictions centered on the Esplanade and surrounding access routes, rather than a resort-wide shutdown.

Disneyland Security Procedures Face an Unusual Test

Disneyland Resort maintains established security procedures intended to identify potentially dangerous objects before they threaten visitors.

According to Disneyland’s official security information, those measures include security personnel, trained dogs, bag inspections, and screening checkpoints throughout the property.

The company’s published park rules also reserve the right to inspect bags and address unattended belongings when necessary.

Those policies help explain why suspicious packages can trigger a substantial response even when investigators eventually determine that the contents are harmless.

The incident also occurred during an extensive transformation of Disneyland’s entrance infrastructure. Recent demolition work around the Esplanade forms part of broader plans to improve pedestrian access and transportation connections.

There is no evidence that the construction contributed to the suspicious packages. Nevertheless, maintaining reliable alternative pedestrian routes remains an important operational consideration whenever security restrictions affect major access points.

For guests, the most important distinction is between a temporary security precaution and an ongoing danger. Authorities cleared the bags, and the affected area subsequently reopened.

What Happens Next in Disneyland Police Investigation?

The immediate security threat has been resolved, but the question of who placed the suspicious bags outside Disneyland remains unanswered.

Investigators are examining evidence associated with the packages and searching for the man believed to have left them near the shuttle roundabout.

Whether authorities identify a suspect, establish a motive, or pursue criminal charges remains unknown. No verified announcement has established that the incident was intended to cause panic or test Disneyland’s security response.

Guests planning future visits should continue following posted directions and instructions from Disneyland cast members, particularly around the eastern entrance where transportation and pedestrian changes are already underway.

For now, the explosives investigation has ended without a dangerous discovery. The remaining development to watch is whether Anaheim police identify the person responsible and determine why the apparently staged packages were abandoned outside one of California’s busiest tourist destinations.
