Universal Studios Hollywood just announced a special holiday event that will give select guests the chance to enjoy the theme park after regular operating hours without paying an additional admission fee.
With Christmas approaching, Universal is preparing to welcome visitors for another season filled with festive entertainment, holiday decorations, and familiar characters dressed for the occasion.
However, the park’s latest announcement offers something a little different from its usual Christmas celebrations.
For two nights in December, Universal will keep the holiday fun going after normal park hours, giving eligible guests four hours to experience the festivities.
And unlike many after-hours events at major theme parks, this one won’t require purchasing a separate event ticket.
There’s just one major catch. Not everyone can participate, and even those who qualify will need to complete an important step before arriving.

Universal Confirms Two Special Nights This December
Universal Studios Hollywood has announced its Pass Member Holiday Park Takeover, a special after-hours celebration scheduled for December 1 and 2, 2026.
During both evenings, participating guests will receive exclusive access to the theme park from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
The event takes place during Universal’s larger holiday celebration, which runs from November 21, 2026, through January 3, 2027.
This year’s festivities will introduce Illumination’s Merry Minions, bringing a new seasonal experience inspired by the popular animated characters.
Meanwhile, longtime holiday favorites will return, including Grinchmas and Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Grinchmas brings Dr. Seuss’ beloved Christmas character into the celebration, while The Wizarding World of Harry Potter transforms into a festive destination filled with seasonal decorations and entertainment.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will also participate in the festivities with holiday decorations and special character encounters.
For guests visiting during the December takeover, the additional evening hours offer another opportunity to enjoy Universal’s Christmas atmosphere without the usual daytime crowds.
However, Universal has not announced that every attraction or holiday offering will remain available throughout the entire event.

This Isn’t the First Time Universal Has Offered the Experience
Although the upcoming celebration gives eligible guests another opportunity to enjoy the park after hours, Universal Studios Hollywood has hosted a similar event before.
The resort introduced its first Pass Member Holiday Park Takeover in 2023.
That inaugural celebration took place on November 28 and 29, giving participating guests exclusive access from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
The event established a special holiday opportunity for Universal’s Passholder community, allowing participants to experience the park outside its regular operating schedule.
Now, three years later, Universal is bringing back the concept for another two-night celebration.
The December dates also fall early enough in the Christmas season for guests to experience the decorations and entertainment before the busiest holiday travel period begins.
Still, anyone hoping to attend should pay close attention to Universal’s admission requirements.

One Major Restriction Could Keep Guests Out
Here’s where Universal’s free holiday announcement comes with an important limitation.
The December 1 and 2 takeover is exclusively available to Universal Studios Hollywood Annual and Season Pass Members.
That means guests holding regular theme park tickets cannot simply arrive after 7 p.m. and expect complimentary admission.
Even having a valid Annual or Season Pass doesn’t automatically guarantee entry.
Universal requires eligible Pass Members to make a reservation due to the event’s limited capacity.
Reservations open after 11 a.m. on November 4, 2026, through Universal Studios Hollywood’s official Pass Member website.
Admission is complimentary for qualifying Pass Members who secure a reservation and present their valid pass.
However, the limited-capacity requirement means interested guests shouldn’t assume they’ll be able to attend simply because they qualify.
Once available reservations fill, additional Pass Members may miss their opportunity to participate.
For those planning a visit specifically around this event, securing a reservation will be just as important as having the appropriate pass.
More Christmas Surprises Are Coming Beyond the Event
Fortunately, guests who don’t qualify for the exclusive takeover can still experience Universal Studios Hollywood’s regular holiday festivities.
Throughout the Christmas season, the theme park will offer seasonal food and beverages, festive merchandise, and opportunities to encounter holiday characters.
Visitors can also explore the park’s decorated themed areas while enjoying returning seasonal entertainment.
The celebration won’t stop at the theme park gates, either.
Universal CityWalk Hollywood will join the festivities with Christmas decorations, a holiday tree, seasonal food, and themed merchandise.
These offerings give visitors additional ways to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere without participating in the exclusive December event.
And with the larger holiday celebration continuing through January 3, 2027, guests will have several weeks to plan a seasonal visit.

What Guests Should Know Before December Arrives
Universal Studios Hollywood’s upcoming takeover offers eligible Pass Members four hours of exclusive holiday access without paying an additional event admission fee.
However, the complimentary experience comes with two important requirements: a valid Annual or Season Pass and an advance reservation.
With only December 1 and 2 available, interested Pass Members should mark November 4 on their calendars.
For everyone else, Universal’s regular holiday celebration will still offer plenty of Christmas entertainment through early January.
The biggest difference is that only qualifying Pass Members with confirmed reservations can enjoy this particular after-hours experience for free.
