Disney Makes Permanent Changes to Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, Effective Immediately

Walt Disney World is making it a little easier for guests to find out what’s happening at their resort. New permanent signs with QR codes are being installed at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, giving guests a quick way to pull up the latest recreation schedule right from their phones. The first permanent signs have been spotted at resorts along the Disney Skyliner route, including Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

This change builds on a shift that started just a few weeks ago. In September, Disney resort hotels began replacing their printed recreation schedules with scannable QR codes. Instead of reading a printed list of activities, guests now scan a code to see what’s on the schedule. Until recently, though, those QR codes were displayed on temporary setups like sandwich boards and movable frames. Now, resorts are moving to more permanent installations.

For families staying at value resorts like Pop Century and Art of Animation, which tend to be packed with young kids, this is a small but helpful update. Parents can quickly check what’s going on at the resort without hunting down a printed schedule or asking at the front desk. Here’s a closer look at the new signs, where they’ve been spotted, and what this change means for guests.

Why Disney Switched to QR Code Recreation Schedules

Recreation schedules are a big part of the resort experience at Walt Disney World. Many families use them to plan downtime between park days, find activities for the kids, or fill an evening after leaving the parks early.

In the past, these schedules were printed and posted around the resort. That worked, but it also meant that new signs had to be printed whenever an activity changed. By switching to QR codes in September, resorts can now update their offerings without replacing the sign. Guests simply scan the code to see the most up-to-date schedule.

It’s a practical move. Schedules can change due of weather, staffing, or seasonal events, and a QR code makes it easier to keep information up to date.

Temporary Signs Are Being Replaced

When the QR code schedules first rolled out, they were displayed on temporary signage. Guests saw them on sandwich boards and other movable frames placed around the resorts.

Now, Disney appears to be switching to permanent displays. That suggests the QR code system isn’t a short-term test but a lasting change in how resorts share recreation information.

Pop Century and Art of Animation Get New Signs

At Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, new blue frames holding the QR code signs have been spotted in planters around the properties. Placing them in planters keeps the signs visible without getting in the way of guests walking by.

Inside Pop Century’s lobby, another sign has been posted in a silver frame, giving guests a second spot to scan the code as they come and go.

These two resorts are especially popular with families. Pop Century is known for its bright, decade-themed design, while Art of Animation features family suites and themed areas inspired by Disney and Pixar films. With so many young kids staying at both resorts, easy access to the recreation schedule can help parents plan activities between park days without much effort.

Caribbean Beach Resort Joins In

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has also received the new signage. One sign sits in a white-and-seafoam-green frame in a flower bed, matching the resort’s tropical color palette. Another sign has been posted within an opening near the lobby.

Caribbean Beach is one of the main hubs of the Disney Skyliner, so plenty of guests pass through the area every day. Having the recreation schedule easy to find makes sense for such a busy resort.

Not Every Resort Has Made the Switch Yet

While several Skyliner resorts now have permanent signs, not every resort has finished the transition. At Disney’s Riviera Resort, the QR code sign is displayed in a black frame that still appears to be temporary.

Since the rollout is ongoing, more resorts will likely receive permanent signs in the coming weeks.

Why This Matters for Skyliner Resort Guests

All four resorts mentioned here, Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera, are on the Disney Skyliner route. That connection makes it easy for guests to travel between them and to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

For families staying at these resorts, the new signs mean:

  • Quick access to the latest recreation schedule
  • No need to look for a printed flyer
  • Updated information whenever activities change
  • An easy way to plan downtime between park days

Tips for Using the QR Code Signs

If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, here are a few tips:

  • Look near the lobby. Several signs have been placed close to lobby areas.
  • Check planters and flower beds. Some resorts are placing signs in landscaped areas.
  • Scan more than once. Since schedules can change, check again later in your stay.
  • Save the link. Bookmarking the schedule can make it easier to find later.

A Small Change That Helps Families

Permanent QR code signs may not be the flashiest update at Walt Disney World, but they make resort life a bit more convenient. For families at busy resorts like Pop Century and Art of Animation, being able to check the recreation schedule in seconds is a welcome change.
