Disney Quietly Confirms Closure of 8-Year-Old Toy Story Land Attraction

Disney has confirmed the closure of a popular Toy Story Land attraction, effective next month.

Disney has been shrinking guests down to the size of Andy’s toys since 2010, when its first Toy Story-inspired area opened at Disneyland Paris. Its attractions include RC Racer and Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop. Hong Kong Disneyland followed in 2011 with its own Toy Story Land, featuring similar thrills alongside Slinky Dog Spin.

Walt Disney World joined the fun in 2018, opening what is, in our opinion, the best version of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers (which recently underwent a mini refresh), and Toy Story Mania! Earlier that year, Shanghai Disneyland unveiled its own version, complete with oversized toys and three attractions: Rex’s Racer, Woody’s Roundup, and Slinky Dog Spin.

Now, one Toy Story attraction is set to close to all guests.

Disney Reveals Closure Date of Toy Story Attraction

The attraction in question is Rex’s Racer, a towering orange half-pipe coaster inspired by Andy’s remote-controlled car, RC. It puts the famously nervous dinosaur Rex in charge of the ride, with help from his fellow dinosaur Trixie. Both characters appear as oversized figures beside the track.

Once aboard, guests hurtle backward and forwards along a giant U-shaped track, climbing higher with each pass before plunging towards the ground. Unlike a traditional roller coaster, there are no loops or winding turns. Instead, the attraction relies on speed, height, and the stomach-dropping sensation of repeatedly changing direction.

Manufactured by Intamin, Rex’s Racer stands approximately 91 feet tall and reaches speeds of up to 47 mph. Its single vehicle accommodates 20 passengers across five rows, with a minimum height requirement of 120 centimeters (47 inches). That makes it one of Toy Story Land’s more intense experiences, particularly compared to its family-friendly neighbors.

However, guests hoping to experience Rex’s Racer later this year will need to plan around an upcoming closure. The attraction is scheduled to shut on November 28, 2026, and remain unavailable through December 5.

Fortunately, this is only a temporary refurbishment, with Rex’s Racer expected to reopen on December 6.

The closure comes amid major changes at Shanghai Disneyland. Construction continues on the park’s ninth themed land, dedicated to Spider-Man, with the track for its new thrill coaster completed in June.

Disney is also expanding Soaring Over the Horizon’s capacity by approximately 50%, while two additional resort hotels are in development. This includes Shanghai Disney Enchanted Star Hotel, which Disney today confirmed will open its doors to guests on December 16, 2026.
