Barrier-Free at Last: Disney World Finishes Relentless 18+-Month Resort Exterior Makeover
For over a year and a half, guests checking into one of Walt Disney World’s most expensive Deluxe hotels had to look past a persistent eyesore: towering metal scaffolding, green privacy mesh, and cherry pickers parked along the waterfront. Visiting Disney’s Yacht Club Resort came with an inescapable caveat—daytime construction noise and obstructed views across Crescent Lake.

That lengthy disruption is officially over.
Walt Disney World has formally pulled all exterior refurbishment advisories for Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, signaling the completion of a major exterior overhaul that began back in the spring of 2025. With every last construction barrier dismantled, the resort’s crisp New England seaside architecture stands fully restored just ahead of the peak winter holiday rush.
Overhauling a New England Icon
Designed by Robert A.M. Stern and opened in late 1990, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort captures the refined, shingle-style aesthetic of historic coastal enclaves like Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Its stately gray clapboard siding, stark white trim, and nautical cupolas make it a visual anchor along the Crescent Lake promenade.

Maintaining that historic seaside charm against Central Florida’s brutal subtropical elements is no small feat. Years of blistering heat, intense UV rays, and torrential afternoon downpours had weathered the building’s exterior envelope, leading to faded siding and worn trim.
What was initially intended to be a routine multi-month refresh expanded into a thorough, floor-by-floor exterior rehabilitation lasting more than 18 months.
Phased Work on an Active Deluxe Property
Because the Yacht Club operates as a bustling Deluxe property catering to families, Disney Vacation Club members, and large convention gatherings, closing the resort was never an option.

Instead, Disney tackled the massive job through a rolling, phased approach:
- Sectional Enclosures: Work crews enclosed the exterior wings with scaffolding and heavy scrims, one section at a time, power-washing, repairing woodwork, and applying fresh weather-resistant coatings before moving down the line.
- Balcony and Railing Updates: Private guest balconies and ornate railings were systematically inspected, reinforced, and resealed to safeguard against rain intrusion.
- Coordinated Interior Refreshes: The exterior work aligned with interior updates across the resort, including brief refurbishments for the popular Crew’s Cup Lounge and Yachtsman Steakhouse, which completed their updates earlier in the season.
Crescent Lake Sights Fully Restored
The removal of the final scaffolding restores uninterrupted, picture-perfect views throughout the entire Crescent Lake district.

Guests strolling between the Yacht Club lobby and the beloved Stormalong Bay pool complex will find the promenades completely clear of construction vehicles and barricades. The wedding gazebo lawns facing the water are back to postcard quality, and visitors taking the FriendShip boats to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios now enjoy a pristine view of the gleaming resort facade across the water.
While exterior roof repairs continue next door at Disney’s Beach Club Resort into 2027, Yacht Club guests can now book water-view and standard rooms with total confidence. Just days after the property celebrated its 36th anniversary, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is finally out from under the tarps and back in peak condition for the holidays.
