Of all of Disney’s classic theme park attractions, Space Mountain is undoubtedly one of Disney’s most beloved and iconic.
Opening in Magic Kindom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in 1975, Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster that takes guests on a thrilling high-speed journey through space. This dark ride has become an iconic part of numerous theme parks, including Disneyland Park, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park (Paris), and Hong Kong Disneyland.
Earlier this year, it was announced that one of these iconic Space Mountain locations would be closing permanently. This surprising decision has been met with conflicting feelings from fans who love the original attraction. Now, Disney has announced how they will say goodbye and pay homage to the Space Mountain ride at Tokyo Disneyland.
The End of an Era
The Tokyo Disney Resort recently unveiled an exciting plan for the future of Space Mountain and Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland. This ambitious project will involve a substantial investment of approximately 56 billion yen, highlighting the park’s unwavering commitment to providing unforgettable experiences for its visitors. Set to debut in 2027, the upcoming renovations promise to enhance the overall atmosphere and attractions in this beloved park area.
One of the focal points of this renovation is the reconstruction of Space Mountain. While the ride itself will retain its thrilling nature, the new Space Mountain will receive a complete makeover to deliver an even more exhilarating and immersive experience. With the incorporation of advanced technologies and cutting-edge special effects, guests can look forward to an enhanced journey through the cosmos, complete with awe-inspiring visuals and heart-pounding moments.
To ensure a seamless integration with the revamped Space Mountain, the surrounding area will also undergo a comprehensive transformation. Tomorrowland Square, the vibrant hub connecting various attractions, will be completely reimagined to complement the futuristic theme of the land. Tokyo Disney Resort aims to create a cohesive and immersive environment where guests can fully immerse themselves in the wonders of Tomorrowland.

To say goodbye to the original attraction in a proper way, Disneyland Resort has announced an event entitled “Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition!.” From April 9 to July 31, 2024, fans will be able to experience this event and honor the closure of the original attraction.
