Even though Florida is known as the Sunshine State, that doesn’t mean that every single day is warm and sunny. Sometimes, Central Florida can get downright cold. Although it is unlikely to get cold enough to snow — although it has happened — it can get into the thirties, and maybe even the twenties, at night. That means that some warm-weather activities are a no-go.

On November 6, 2023, Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World Resort reopened after being closed for months. Each year, Blizzard Beach closes for renovations and Typhoon Lagoon opens up. Then, Typhoon Lagoon will close, and Blizzard Beach will open back up.

Unfortunately, the cold front hitting Florida has forced Disney to close Blizzard Beach. According to the Walt Disney World Resort website, Blizzard Beach will be closed from December 28 through December 31. The Weather Channel says that the temperatures on those days will only be in the low sixties, making it unsafe for guests to enjoy water activities.

While the theme park is rescheduled to open on January 1, if temperatures do not improve, it is possible that Disney could decide to extend the closure. January 1 is only expected to see a high of 69°, and January 2 will only be 63°. Temperatures should go back up on January 3, when the high is expected to be 71°.

Sadly, temperatures aren’t expected to stay in the seventies. January 4 will see things return to the sixties, where they will stay for the foreseeable future.

This is not the first time since opening that Disney has had to close Blizzard Beach due to inclement weather. Over Thanksgiving, the park had to close for a couple of days. Then, it was only open for a few days before it had to close again. The week of December 10 also saw the theme park close because of cold temperatures.

If you have a ticket to Blizzard Beach, don’t worry about being able to use it. Walt Disney World Resort Water Park tickets are currently valid through December 31, 2025. So, you can use it once Blizzard Beach reopens, or you can save it and use it when Typhoon Lagoon reopens sometime next year.
