One thing that is obvious about Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro is that he’s also a fan. At Destination D23 he revealed his lightsaber experience upon the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which opens on March 1, 2022. Jeremy Schoolfield shared the details on Disney Parks Blog:

Amid all the excitement and curiosity surrounding the forthcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort, there’s one thing I’m looking forward to the most: lightsaber training.

When this first-of-its-kind vacation experience begins welcoming guests aboard the Halcyon starcruiser on March 1, 2022, they’ll finally know what it’s like to feel the Force and wield a lightsaber as they square off against a training remote, similar to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope. It’s one of the many immersive activities that comprise this two-night adventure where you’ll see, feel and live Star Wars.

This morning at Destination D23, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro gave us a sneak peek at this much-anticipated moment aboard the starcruiser. Let’s take our first step into a larger world and watch as Josh tests his skills with a lightsaber.

Oh, wait … there was more? Yes, Josh also stopped by the starcruiser’s bridge, where Disney Imagineer Sara Thacher taught him how to defend the ship using some trusty blaster cannons. Guests will learn these skills, too, during their adventure … which may come in handy should anything unexpected happen. But nah, everything always goes according to plan in that galaxy far, far away, right?

This is just a taste of what’s to come for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, so keep checking back with us here at the Disney Parks Blog as we hurtle toward March 1 like we’re jumping to lightspeed. Earlier this week, for instance, we revealed a few of the new characters you may meet onboard. You can also visit www.starwarsgalacticstarcruiser.com for more details and register to receive regular updates.

About Paula K

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
