It’s hard to believe but August has arrived! Are you planning your most magical trip yet to Walt Disney World this month? Whether you’re visiting to eat and sip your way through EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, experience multiple attraction reopenings we have greatly missed, attend a Disney After Hours Boo Bash, or simply to enjoy a little getaway – Disney is ready to invite you home. There are however a few refurbishments you’ll want to take note of as you prepare your days in the parks and resorts.
Sorry Disney fans, this one has been closed for a LONG time now, and we are missing it dearly. The railroad closed temporarily way back on December 3, 2018 and has remained closed since. The extended closure is due to the construction of the new attraction, Tron Lightcycle Power Run. Our best guess is that we won’t have a chance to take a ride on the railroad until Tron opens… which has yet to be announced… but is expected in 2022.
2. The Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom):
Disney has been hard at work preparing Hall of Presidents for the 46th President, Joe Biden. Recently, Disney shared the news that Hall of Presidents would be open to guests in August. A specific date has not yet been released. Hall of Presidents is still listed on the refurbishment calendar throughout all of August. For Trump’s Presidency, the attraction closed in January 2017 for refurbishment and reopened in December 2017. It seem the refurbishment process went much faster this time around.
3. Main Street Confectionery (Magic Kingdom):
Yes, this tasty shop filled with delightful treats closed on March 29, 2021 for a lengthy refurbishment. Currently, the refurbishment calendar has the Confectionery listed as under refurbishment through October 16, 2021. Note – October 16 is as far as Disney’s park hours are currently listed at the time of writing this article which is as far as the refurbishment calendar goes. This refurbishment could go longer once the calendar is updated. Get excited though because when it reopens Disney has said we will have a chance to customize our confections! In the meantime, there is a temporary shop set up in Main Street Cinema with Confectionery treats.
4. Magic Kingdom’s “Partners” Statue (Magic Kingdom):
Take note photo seekers! The iconic Magic Kingdom “Partners” statue is currently under refurbishment. The Partners statue was installed in 1993 in front of the Cinderella Castle, depicting Walt Disney holding the hand of his most beloved character, Mickey Mouse. We personally have several family photos in front of the Partners status, and we’re sure you Disney fans do as well! As Walt Disney World prepares for their 50th Anniversary celebration, Disney is taking the time to refurbish the statue with no announced end date.
5. The Wave… of American Flavors (Disney’s Contemporary Resort):
The Wave… of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is currently unavailable as Disney refurbishes the space in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurant closed for refurbishment on July 15. With that said, you can still have The Wave breakfast upstairs at California Grill! The Disney rumor mill and speculations are hard at work with this refurbishment. Much of the speculations suggest Disney could make this a character dining restaurant with characters from The Incredibles since they are now refurbishing the Contemporary Resort’s room to an Incredibles theme. While we would absolutely love a character dining experience at The Wave, there is no confirmation from Disney.
6. Guest Rooms & Front Desk (Disney’s Contemporary Resort)
Along with The Wave refurbishment, you’ll also notice guest rooms and the first floor Lobby at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are currently under refurbishment. Disney has stated the refurb will last through “late September 2021”. The front desk and concierge services are currently located on the second floor. When the project is complete, we’re excited to see a touch of the Incredibles fill the resort!
7. Disney’s Old Key West Resort Lobby
Another addition to resort lobby refurbishments has been added to the list! Disney has announced they are updating the check-in experience at Disney’s Old Key West Resort now through late September 2021.
8. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa Lobby
The final lobby under refurbishment is located at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. Disney has shared they are updating the guest arrival experience at this resort as well. Refurbishment is currently underway and expected to last through late October, 2021.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are currently listed as being free from refurbishment closures (yay!). Keep in mind, refurbishments are listed to help us plan but it is not set in stone. Disney has been known to extend refurbishments, shorten them, and even close attractions and/or shops suddenly for refurb. We’ll keep you updated as we cruise through August!
