Disney’s Riviera Resort is the newest Disney resort to join the family at Walt Disney World. It is also a Disney Vacation Club property! Thanks to Disney Parks Blog, we have a special look at the beautiful mosaics within the resort. These mosaics are found within a walkway tunnel at the resort and they showcase Disney European tales. Per Disney Parks Blog, “The original stories that inspired these murals were included in the collection of over 300 books that Walt Disney sent back to his studios while traveling Europe in the 1930s. The use of mosaics for the murals celebrates the beauty of the art style, materials and craftsmanship.”

Each of the two different mosaic pieces will feature a unique story set along the tunnel wall. They will each be joined at the top of the tunnel with a shared mosaic sky that is 20 feet high.

“The mural you’re seeing today shows a magical scene of London at night, with Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John flying off to Neverland. More than 500,000 hand-cut tiles were laid by hand to create this amazing mosaic!”

Disney’s Riviera Resort is still under construction, but is currently projected to officially open to guests starting December 16th, 2019. Guests can already make their reservations online or by calling directly.

What do you think of these beautiful mosaics?

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
