Disney Cruise Line Issues Statement on Potential Impacts of Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian is currently on track to make landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm, and preparations are underway for residents and visitors across the state.

While evacuation orders have been in effect in select counties across the coast, Florida’s tourism industry is also preparing for operational changes based on the forecasted path of the storm. Following the recent announcement from the Walt Disney World Resort on upcoming closures and cancellations due to the storm later this week, Disney Cruise Line has issued a statement updating Guests on the status of its operations during this time.

Disney Cruise Line has updated its official website to include the following statement on Hurricane Ian:

We have been closely monitoring Hurricane Ian. Based on the current projected forecast, we anticipate that the Disney Wish, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream will sail as scheduled. However, there is a possibility that the Disney Wish will return to Port Canaveral on Friday, September 30, later than originally scheduled. We will notify Guests should it be necessary to delay embarkation for the September 30 Disney Wish sailing.

The other two ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, are not operating near Florida and the Caribbean at this time, with the Magic sailing from Dover, England to New York and the Wonder sailing out of San Diego.

With the Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy currently sailing out of Port Canaveral, and the Disney Dream sailing out of Miami, it is possible that Guests on upcoming cruises will feel some impacts from the storm. Even if itineraries and sailings are not directly affected by the hurricane, rough seas are certainly possible when cruising from Florida and the Caribbean.
