‘We are ready to open responsibly, it is the time to open responsibly and it’s important to open responsibly,’ says Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock. Sadly, Disneyland remains stuck “in limbo” waiting for the reopening plan from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

As shared by OCRegister: Disneyland remains stuck “in limbo” waiting for a promised reopening plan from Gov. Gavin Newsom and state officials as the coronavirus closure of California theme parks stretches past the six-month mark. “Without those guidelines, we’re quite honestly in limbo,” Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock said.
Potrock aired his frustrations with Gov. Gavin Newsom and the lack of California theme park reopening plans during a meeting with the Southern California News Group editorial board.
“We’ve been waiting for guidelines from the governor’s office,” Potrock said. “We’ve made many, many, many recommendations as to what those protocols should be. We’ve offered to help with guidance so that we can get to a place that would be reasonable for us to open. Unfortunately we haven’t received that guidance.”

The reopening of zoos, aquariums, museums and other California industries has left Potrock wondering why theme parks remain closed. “I would challenge you to find any other industry that is doing what we’re doing to open safely,” Potrock said. “We’re not asking to be treated differently. We’re asking to be treated equitably based upon what we believe we bring to the table.”
An announcement on California theme park reopening guidelines is coming “very, very shortly,” Newsom said on Sept. 16.
