The first solar panel has been installed at the new solar facility that will power Walt Disney World! Now there are only 499,999 solar panels to go! As we previously reported, these new solar panels are being installed in a 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility in a collaboration with Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA. This new solar facility is expected to provide enough energy to power two of the four major theme parks within Walt Disney World. The target completion for the project is in a few months, which will be exciting to watch!

This project was started in an effort to pursue Disney’s commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship, which was important to Walt Disney, himself.
Walt Disney World is leveraging Cast Members from Disney’s Animal, Science and Environment and Horticulture teams to assist in the development of the facility. There are efforts to make the entire site pollinator friendly and safe for endangered species of butterflies, bees and other insects.
Of course we will keep you updated as we learn more about this exciting project and the positive impacts that it will have on the environment!
