‘Florida Man’ Demands Entry To Military Base By Telling Soldiers He’s ‘Captain America’

There are times when entertainment crossovers work incredibly well, and others when they are complete disasters. The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy have built their shows by incorporating characters from other shows into their storylines. Of course, South Park’s latest crossover with Disney absolutely eviscerated the Mouse House for pandering in its attempts at diversity.

The entire MCU is built around characters leaving their movies to join together in a continuing storyline. But now, we have the Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover that no one asked for and, frankly, no one wanted. The MCU has crossed over with real life, and not just any part of the real world: the MCU has collided with “Florida man.”

Click Orlando reports that a Florida man was arrested for attempting to enter MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. The man approached the main gate of the Air Force Base, and when asked by the military police for identification, he claimed that he was “Captain America” and that he had a top-secret meeting with the generals on the base.

Earlier this week, Baruch Roche II, 33, was detained by police after becoming argumentative with the military police. After a search of his car, police discovered an AR-15 rifle and five magazines loaded with 125 rounds of ammunition. The alleged Captain America was taken into custody and charged with attempted possession of a firearm in a federal facility.

According to its website, MacDill Air Force Base is home to the United States Central Command and United States Special Operations Command. The military installation also has a Coast Guard outpost that assists Florida with hurricane preparations and evacuations. 

It is unclear what the Florida man’s plans were once he entered the military base. Roche could face a fine and up to five years in prison if convicted.

It is also unknown which Captain America the Florida man was pretending to be. The original Captain America, Steve Rogers, retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019). Rogers would turn the mantle over to the Falcon, Sam Wilson. Wilson, who is played by Anthony Mackie, was set to star in Captain America: Brave New World (2025), but the release of that film was delayed a year under Disney CEO Bob Iger’s reshuffling of Disney and Marvel’s release calendar. Under the new plan, Wilson will not take the reigns in his first film until 2025.

Hopefully, this will be the last time that Florida man makes an attempted appearance in the MCU, and thankfully, everyone at MacDill Air Force Base is safe.
