Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery, and the Walt Disney Company have teamed up in a move that will prove significant in sports television and broadcast history.
The Walt Disney Company has not had an easy few years. From a sudden and significant change in leadership with the ousting of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek and the return of current Disney CEO Bob Iger to the restructuring and cost-cutting exercise that cost 4000 employees their jobs and another 3000 positions to be canceled, Disney has had an eventful few months.
Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery, Disney Create New Sports Streaming Venture
Now, in an effort to save its struggling streaming business, Disney is teaming up with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery to create a new joint sports streaming platform that will put ESPN, TNT, and Fox Sports on a new app that centers sports content.
Per Reuters, this combined app will include “professional and collegiate sports rights, which span the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, FIFA World Cup and college competitions.”
Fox, Warner Bros and Disney are set to launch a new sports streaming joint venture in the Fall.
The venture will put ESPN, TNT and Fox Sports on a new app together.

The service is yet to be named, and any Disney sports fans should know that the company is offering the choice to purchase the new sports streaming app along with a streaming bundle from Disney+, Hulu, or Max.
“This means the full suite of ESPN channels will be available to consumers alongside the sports programming of other leaders,” Disney CEO Bob Iger explained in a statement.
“It’s a smart defensive move with potentially huge upside,” former Disney executive Bernard Gershon said. He explained the possible logic behind the deal, “Let’s figure out a way to split the costs of rights as they go up…And let’s create a platform that people will go for a range of sports and capture some of the upside.”
